First time watching *DIVERGENT* (it slaps)

I know having read the books gives me a bit of an advantage but I am surprised how many reactors don't realize one of Tris' attackers is Peter, given how he treats her and singles her out. Plus you can hear his voice during the fight. It's so obvious one is Peter and so many completely miss it.

Points that are clear in the books but not in the movie:

Dauntless aren't just climbers and parkour enthusiasts. They are the cops and soldiers. The guardian. Being Dauntless isn't about being fearless, but about being brave. The whole point is to overcome your fears to protect society. As Four pointed out, everyone is afraid of something. They train to overcome their fears and put others first and are always climbing and parkouring to push themselves.. Eric and the others just want more power.

Four refused to take leadership because he knew he'd have to interact with the other faction's leaders, which would include his abusive father. He also doesn't show his tattoo to anyone but Tris.

The way to overcome your fears in the fear landscape is to basically calm down. Most people take awhile to calm themselves but, since Tris knows it's not real, it's easier for her. Figuring her way out through the various fears basically just draws out her time and makes her seem braver instead of different.

Abnegation is about selflessness. They aren't homeless, they purposely go without because it's not about their comfort, it's about being of service.

And being factionless means no contact with family, no food, no money, no clothes,, no homes, nothing that isn't handed out to you by Abnegation and Amity (because they believe in charity and kindness). It's considered total failure and a fate worse than anything.

At the end, they had her shut down the simulation and wipe the program out of existence (so she couldn't just turn it back on). Jeanine was freaking out because she would have to start from scratch and the program took most of her life to create.

Crazy that you said that Eric has some Erudite in him because he was born there! Nice.

You know what happens in the last book? Tris dies and Four gets together with Christine (yes her friend) in his despair and they both marry each other to live happily every after 💀

I know you’ve probably heard this a lot by now, but the books were wayyyy better. I’m sure the movies are pretty good for people who haven’t read the books, but once you’ve read the series you can’t unsee every mistake and cringe moment in the movies lol. I first read Divergent when I was in middle school. It’s got a special place in my heart and is still one of my favorite book series.
