It's a shame it's in such poor shape
ОтветитьGuess that one's going to end up in the BONE YARD too. Sad Sad. How many Beer Can's ya recon ?
ОтветитьI am only here because I wanted to see if that plane was real...ie... was it a real production plane or some cgi gimmick ...... now I know 😁👍
ОтветитьNice to see her.. but what a shame she is in such poor upkeep.
ОтветитьThis must be a early model , I mechanic an flue on a D model in 1959-62 Edwards AFB. And some with the crews that cought satellites around Hawaii, those guys were on the edge.Great flyers.
ОтветитьI tought these all had four blade props
ОтветитьGreat walk around video, I was a crew member, Flight Engineer/ Flight Mechanic, on these for almost 9 yrs. This is the last type of the C-119's that actually flew in the Air Force and is a C-119L. In the 72'-73' time frame , the Air Force converted 20 some C-119G's to "L"s ..... from a 4 blade Aeroproducts propeller to a more efficient 3 blade Hamilton Standard propellers off of C-121C Connie's. This is a Koren War era transport not WWII. Fairchild and Kaiser Fraizer built the C-119's. Our Unit the 130th SOG flew the very last C-119's in the inventory to the Boneyard in September 1975. It has R3350 radial engines and the C-119C's I first checked out in had R4360 radial engines. Ours had "clam shell rear doors" and they also made C-119J's with "beaver tail" rear doors designed to aerial retrieve returning space capsules. I have flown all over USA, South America and Europe in these old birds. Fun days !!!
ОтветитьMy dad was a test pilot for those when they were in willow run Have some nic e pics and his log books ( ya plural) as he started off flying Ferry command during ww 2 Then with Kaiser Frasier testing for delivery.
ОтветитьMy father flew the AC-119 gunship version with jet assist in Vietnam. It had a 4 bladed prop.
ОтветитьThanks you for sharing this with us! Btw where was this and is it still there?
ОтветитьOur AF Reserve Hospital unit flew to Kessler AFB in 10 of these C119's!
They called it the Dollar-nineteen!
The flight engineer said that when they did the take-off roll at O'Hare he said 5 Hail Mary's!
He Was Jewish! That sez something!!!
The original film was really good...
ОтветитьThanks for posting!!
ОтветитьRemember seeing her back in the 80's in Greybull, WY. She was cannibalized by Hawkins & Powers Aviation for their other C-119s in the fleet.
ОтветитьDoes she fly still by any chance or how much would it take to get her airworthy again?
ОтветитьThink the original "flight of phoenix" with Jimmy Stewart was a C-82
ОтветитьI was just at buckeye airport the other day and got a tour of this plane. Pretty neat to see the actual plane in real life so close to my house
ОтветитьFairchild is an underappreciated name in the Aviation Industry. And yet they have made some daaamn fine machines! Their most successful model is the notorious A-10 Thunderbolt. AKA the Warthog.
Ответитьwasn't the movie version with glass roof?
ОтветитьI saw every single hole and a lit bit the plane😆
ОтветитьI’ve been to Buckeye and seen her! There are a lot of other awesome relics on the field.
ОтветитьThe original "Flight of the Phoenix", in 1965, with Jimmy Stewart, used a C-82, instead of the C-119, a much better movie also.
ОтветитьMarch 25, 2021----It's been a few years since I've been out to Stead, Nevada's airport, but at one time there was a C-119 out there. It was used in the movie ConAir, with a decal still on the left side of the plane, just under the cockpit windows.
ОтветитьTime has not been kind to the gorgeous lady
ОтветитьPhenomenal!!.
ОтветитьSadly I miss these old classic aircrafts with their beautiful sounding classic radial engines
Thank you for sharing
That's sad to such a awesome plane rotting away like that I don't see how hollywood just puts icon props out to rust and decay!? 🤔😩🍻🍾😉👍😊
ОтветитьSuch a great looking plane
ОтветитьIs this aircraft still flyable, or has it been abandoned?
ОтветитьThese have the massive 28 CYL P&W engine largest piston engine ever in service.
ОтветитьNice job, showing lots of details, for modelers
ОтветитьAve fénix,!!!👌
Ответитьshe's certainly seen better days :(
ОтветитьBeautiful aircraft.
Ответитьthats cool, they still have it sitting somewhere? out of all the movies i was sure this thing got destroyed after the movie
ОтветитьFirst airplane ride I ever had was in a C-119. It was an ROTC trip.
ОтветитьWrong. It was a c-82 in Flight of Phoenix.
ОтветитьI went on this ship one day in Port of Spain Trinidad in the 2000s (on the old south-side ramp) when it was returning from filming in the Sahara for the Phoenix movie. It had the roof-top jet pack (which was sorely needed) then, and a huge fuel tank mounted in the cargo bay. It fueled up, took off, had an engine issue and returned. They resolved it, and took off again for somewhere in the US. We passed it overhead as we were returning to MIA later, and chatted a bit on the radio with them, far below, as we were at 30~ something thousand ft. in a DC-8. The "good ole days"...
ОтветитьThat plane now starred in Transformers Rise of the Beasts as Stratosphere
ОтветитьOne plane that truly deserves saving
ОтветитьsSo; is she due for restoration or has she been dumped? Classic, functional beauty.
Ответитьhow do we know this is the plane from the movie or one like it?
ОтветитьI was a mechanic on one of these while in the Marine Corps in Seattle naval air station, SAND POINT!! Long again and long gone sadly!!
Ответитьnice camper
ОтветитьI want to visit it what airport is it at?
Ответитьi love this plane and the movie. "we are not garbage"...what a wonderful scene
