1. Encourage participation in Methodist Young Leaders' Conference (18 to 40 years; 12–15/6/24; PDMC)
Problem




• Inadequate number of those willing to serve God’s purpose in their own generation as David did – a man after God’s own heart. (Acts 13:22, 36)




Pray




• Conference’s aim will be attained, i.e. “to raise renewed leaders with Christian ethos in the Methodist Church in Malaysia, & servant-leaders who understand Christ’s sacrificial love and servant-leadership that arises from the Great Shepherd’s heart.


• Our Lord Jesus’ words regarding “… the leader should be like a servant” (Lk 22:26) be internalised & applied among the participants.


• Participants to live in the Lord’s will (Lk 9:23) & experience the Holy Spirit’s working in their souls.




2. INVEST QUALITY TIME in our CHILDREN



Problem




• Parents lack knowledge & skills in resolving conflict peaceably.  Failure to show interest & genuine care, & being a control freak, are also issues of concern.




Pray




• Parents to find quality time to invest in their children … “not only to keep (parents) from regret, but also to give (their) teens a solid footing for their lives ahead” (Jessie Minassian, focusonthefamily.com)




3. SAFEGUARD OUR PRECIOUS YOUNG PEOPLE



Problem




• Drugs, alcohol, pornography, gangsterism, bullying & sexual activity.




Pray




• Children to be protected from such undesirable influences that are degrading & destroying our nation’s young lives.

4. STRENGTHEN MARRIAGES



Problem




• Divorce cases rose markedly by 43.1% (43,936 in 2021 vis-a-vis 62,890 in 2022) in Malaysia, involving mostly men aged 35-39 & women aged 30-34. (Source: Department of Statistics, Malaysia)




Pray




• Marriages to be strengthened, & honoured among all & not marked by immorality or sexual sin outside of marriage. (Heb 13:4)









5. HELP THE POOR & NEEDY
Problem




• Inability of poor & needy to provide for their basic needs (material & non-material) as they struggle to keep up with the rising cost of living, especially in the urban areas.  There is also the adverse impact of the digital divide on those in the rural areas.




Pray




• Affordable access to healthcare, education, water, electricity & internet connection for the poor & needy in Malaysia.





6. PROMOTE OUR NATION’S WELL-BEING
Problem




• The lack of unity, stability, capability, integrity or incorruptibility are a huge liability to any nation, impoverishing all nations alike.




Pray




• Pray the Scriptures (Prov 11:14; 14:34; 1 Tim 2:2; cf Ps 33:12) for our nation’s well-being.


• Pray too for the well-being of Malaysia’s new Agong, who has begun his 5-year reign effective from 31/1/24.





7. SLOW DOWN CLIMATE CHANGE
Problem




• Consequences of climate change include warmer global temperature, intense droughts, water scarcity, severe fires, rising sea levels, flooding, melting polar ice, catastrophic storms & declining biodiversity.




Pray




• Reduce greenhouse gas emissions to slow down climate change & global warming, & enhance sustainability of the environment and our planet. (The Methodist Book of Discipline Methodist Church, 2022 – para. 86)


• Effective follow-through of the agreement of COP28 (Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on 13/12/23) to limit global temperature rise to no more than 1.5°C. (https://www.un.org/en/climatechange/cop28)
