I know this is a month old and no one is probably going to see this, but my husband and I absolutely have a safe word! (Technically we have two, but we don't need to talk about the other one, lol!) If either of us needs a password for something that we can't remember, we say the safe word, to let the other know it's actually us. We had a friend who was mugged outside of their apartment, and the mugger ended up texting people in her phone book to try to get her bank card password. This was like 20 years ago, and it scared us enough to do this. We've never had to use it this way, but if we're speaking on the phone to each other, the safe word would mean we're in trouble. And we're not true crime fans, I'm just a Bose fan!!

There will ALWAYS be people who believe her because they think what she thinks. I too think this should result in jail time.

I will say about the safe word, as a kid we did have a safe “phrase” If we needed to get out of a situation or an emergency.which was “can you set 5 for dinner” because there was only 4 of us and we never set the table a head of time. We wanted something that sounded natural but also something we would never actually say. I used it once to leave a sleep over I felt uncomfortable at. But with my family now we do not have a safe word/ or phrase

My family’s safe word when I was a kid was “broccoli”. The school had an officer teach us about safety & told us to make a safe word

As someone who came from a military family we do actually have/had a safe word (more a safe sentence) but the use of it in this bs is horrible

I mean we do have a secret family password, but that's more for like if someone says, "Hey your parents sent me to get you or wanted me to pick you up"... they'd have to give him the correct password or he wouldn't willingly go with them... We are learning sign language because we'd like to be more aware of the deaf community's struggles but also because it's a way to talk in front of people silently... I don’t blame the Petaluma Police Department for ‘blowing this up,’ as Katie put it, because of the abduction of Polly Klaas, from her home in Petaluma and who was in a car in a ditch that was reported to police in nearby Santa Rosa, but the incident hadn’t gone out to other area police yet, so they helped him out of the ditch and sent him on his way. No one’s fault, but an unfortunate turn of events nonetheless.
