On Being Offended: A Compilation

It's okay for someone to be offended and they should clarify why. Saying they're offended should have some emotional resonance in the offender to listen to why and hopefully reflect on whether or not they want to keep saying things like that.
I think it's a big problem when people say stuff like "offense is taken not given" and "it's free speech to say what ever I want" as an excuse to not properly consider the other side and reflect on what you say (not much of this in the video but heavily featured in these comments). Yes, you have the right to say whatever you want but that doesn't mean you should.
In particular, I'm considering racist, homophobic and transphobic remarks which all spawn from ignorance and a lack of willingness to hear what someone who doesn't share your life experiences has to say.

I just read an article about a black Dunkin Donuts manager who beat a man to death for saying the N word, the black man was given 2 years house arrest. He was offended so he killed someone. F*ck your feelings.

Tom Segura has a great response about 30 mins in to his comedy special "Ball Hog" where he says you're allowed to be offended but what do you want me to do about it? Then goes on to perfectly show how/why people who say this should be treated like children. 100% spot on! We must fight back while we still can, tyranny is rising across the world!

One could argue that, if anyone has a claim to being offended, it is actually non-believers/free-thinkers having their intelligence offended by religious preaching and symbols, etc.

Institutionalized racism is pretty offensive though and it’s a real problem. Same with world hunger, the idea that there are starving people is pretty offensive, but the thing to do about that is to deal with the actual problem.
