Super fun topic John and Christy! Just so you know, the "thin Buddha" and the "fat Buddha" are two different people. The thin Buddha represents Siddhartha Gautama, who was a prince who lived around 600 BC in what is now Nepal. His teachings, after he attained enlightenment, focused on teaching the acceptance of suffering. The fat Buddha (or laughing Buddha) represents a Chinese monk named Qici who lived in the 10th-century in what is now Zhejiang Province, China. His life and teachings emphasized joy, laughter, and the importance of giving. So in one very broad (and extremely simplistic) interpretation, Thin Buddha represents the acceptance of suffering, and Fat Buddha represents embracing joy. 🙃 The two are often confused for one another, especially in Western cultures.
ОтветитьGreat episode. I think they're fake. Sorry Christy!
ОтветитьWow yet another fun and interesting topic, I don't know much about Buddha so it was a great lesson. I know of Japanese monks used to "self mummify" themselves and the temples still have their bodies that are respected to this day. The tooth is amazing, thank you both for this video.
ОтветитьGuess I need to start meditating so I don't have to pay for that bridge I'll probably need. Thanks awakened one!
