They need to bring Divekick to the Switch.
ОтветитьWhat was the game near the end when they mentioned Iron Galaxy again?
Ответить"One true fighting game" hardly, dong dong never die is the only real fighting game
ОтветитьI played this with friends and at pax east 2013 or 2014 I frauded one of the developers that was playing anyone who lined up. Won an extra copy of the game lol. One of my favorite memories and I always loved the game. We played mk9 and this lol. Now a decade later I'm actually into fighting games for real, about to attend a local in fact.
ОтветитьThis has made me realize just how much 2D fighting games have defined the fighting game genre as opposed to 3D. Dive kick is simple, but it's still all about space control and movement within that 2D space. But all the rules and intricacies of a 2D game become mostly irrelevant when it comes to 3D fighters like Virtua Fighter or SoulCalibur.
I kind of suspect that part of the reason Tekken is as popular in the FGC as it is has to do with it playing more like a 2D game, with the best defensive tech being backdashes that allow you to still block as opposed to the riskier sidesteps in VF. Tekken also seems to be more footsie based as opposed to the Rock, Paper, Scissor mixup mindgames of VF or DOA. Even SoulCalibur, which has you choosing between horizontal or vertical attacks, does still have an emphasis on space control with the varying weapon ranges. I think the Netherealm games do draw a bit more from some 3D fundamentals, since in those games mid attacks can actually beat crouching blocks like they do in 3D fighters, and you don't have to rely on jump ins or only one slow overhead
I guess my point is, while there are many types of fighting games, it really does seem like the FGC in general (even including things like the Smash community) really is mostly concerned with what's a more narrow style of gameplay, based on who can control and move through space better, as opposed to high-intensity, fast-paced RPS, where every move has a hard counter and you need to choose the right one.
But maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. Just feels like there's a whole other side of fighting games that is being neglected.
Fantasy Strike
Ответить"Get the project off the ground" is low-key the best statement for the beginning of this game.
ОтветитьThis game can literally be played on atari controller
ОтветитьCan we talk about how they added The Baz in the game which is a reject Street fighter character design popularized by fighterpedia and the superbestfriends?
Ответитьfootsies is better than divekick
ОтветитьI remember this game, good times
ОтветитьIt's not good. It was never good. It exposed the hype train model of marketing. Looking back on it all, anyone who promoted it shouldn't be embarrassed
Ответитьdoctor doom would be proud he shoulda have had a cameo lmao
ОтветитьIm surprised they didn't mention the fighting game called "footsies" I like how it makes core mechanics the main focus over infinite or broken combos..
ОтветитьBeen a fan since it appeared at Pax East
ОтветитьWish they would port to android
ОтветитьThis was such a fun game to play, we made a drinking game out of it
ОтветитьOh right… this game…
I hated this game back them.
Hate it more now.
It shows that the best people who can make a good joke about a community are the people within the community
Truly, legendary
I played this all it once at the EVO it came out (was it 13 or 12)... seemed kinda cool, then didn't hear about it for a minute
ОтветитьThe perfect fighting game for the post-arcade, Dave & Busters era. This deserves its own cabinet, with two giant obnoxious buttons. It would fit right in beside Doodle Jump--the platformer that has only a giant joystick, which only moves left and right.
ОтветитьToo bad dive kick, kicked the can.
ОтветитьLmao at jwong teaching the kid a lesson in life 😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьHEY CAN YOU DO A LITTLE RESEARCH AND FIND OUT THAT DIVEKICK RUINED MY NAME RATHER THAN MAKE IT?? THANK YOU FOR TRYING
ОтветитьThis game was murder son
ОтветитьThis looks great. I never saw the appeal of playing a game where if someone touches you once, you might as well set your controller down while they combo you to death.
ОтветитьDope
ОтветитьI find Dive Kick funny because when I was a kid it was the only way I could beat SF2 and MK. Dive kicked Goro and Bison to death.
ОтветитьUsing kickstarter to fund the game's creation is just chef's kiss
Ответитьesam still had hair when he won
ОтветитьNoice.
ОтветитьJust watched justin wing for the first time ranking maybe 50 games or so. Seemed so chill. Then i see first clip of this lol.
ОтветитьThe accessibility factor of this game is something I seriously wish more fighting games had. Like, I used to play Guilty Gear a lot, yeah? Back when Accent Core was around. I played it a LOT. I did the whole Git Gud thing. The more I advanced though, the more I found that whoever I was playing with just... wasnt having much fun (outside of events and such). Why? Because as a couple of friends put it, they just couldnt pull off the crazy moves/combos that I was doing, or that they saw in some videos, whatever. They hit a point where they felt like they couldnt compete, and once that feeling sets in, the fun drains. And for me, if my opponent isnt having a good time... neither am I. Most of my friends ended up just sort of dropping the genre entirely, because no matter where they looked, every game was like that to a degree (with Smash being the only exception I can think of at the time... but even that got bonkers at high levels).
Divekick though? It's an example of what I wish the genre could be. Even a new player could pull off all the fun moves that they saw the pros use. Yeah, they may not quite yet grasp the ideas behind those moves or understand how to REALLY use them, but the fact that they could do those moves AT ALL increased their confidence. And the one hit KO thing meant that, even against a particularly tough opponent... they might still win a round or two. After all, even a pro makes mistakes, and it only takes ONE hit... what a confidence boost if THAT happened, eh? And, on top of that, the game didnt take itself seriously AT ALL. It was funny, the moves were totally goofy. The developers went in a direction that other fighters seem to avoid, and it just increased the fun factor even more. You didnt even need to get the in-jokes at all to get a laugh out of it.
And then, best of all, if those new players kept up with it? They'd start to see real progress of the sort that, previously, they thought they couldnt achieve. It showed them that yes, they really CAN do it. And maybe they could handle other fighting games too.
Seriously, the genre needs more of that. And I really wish it had more. These days I dont really play fighting games anymore... when my friends' interest vanished, so did mine (yeah, I know, I could play people online or something, and that's nice and all, but... without them involved it sorta lost all meaning). And maybe they could regain that interest if something like this was out there.
Anyway, just my thoughts on it. A lot of fond memories associated with this game.
I’m going through my old backlog of games on Steam because I recently got a Steam Deck. I had no idea what this game was until watching this video. Must have gotten it in a Humble Bundle or something. I’ll have to try playing it with my nieces and nephews.
Ответитьyeah..i just bought this game on steam
ОтветитьImagine how hard the Divekick 2 roster would go in this current Content creator era!
ОтветитьLoL
ОтветитьBald man once said It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning is winning. Even if its one move or fireball.
Family
One true fighting game...?
Most absurd thing I have ever heard about a game.
This game is a total joke
I heard S-Kill is based on Maxamillion Dood
ОтветитьDr.Doom: FOOT……FOOT DIVE
ОтветитьIn the name of humanity, put me out of my misery!!!!
ОтветитьI like how every character has a distinct move set, despite the fact that all you do is dive and kick!
ОтветитьI remember watching Dashie play this 😂
