My brothers are deer hunters. My Dad was a quail hunter. The targets have a chance, can run fast and fly fast, respectively. But shooting a still bear w a high powered rifle and huge scope is no sport at all. Bear management, I guess. But let’s call it what it is.

I live off grid in Del Norte county in the klamath mountains bears have blown up after the stoppage of hunting with dogs.
Hardly a Redwood or fir or pine tree in the area that hasn't been striped of its bark for cambium layer sap.
Bears are delicious far better eating than deer and the ribs BBQ are the best ever.
Without man as a hunter bears have no predators and are already over populated for their food source at hand.
So I say get a bear tag go hunt a bear for food you won't regret it!
A little piece of advice from a old bear hunter first.
If you cannot get the hide off and get the meat cooled off before you get home buy block ice have on hand and after bear is gutted out pack is insides to neck with block ice it will cool it off fast .
You will have a excellent meat if taken care of properly.
