I dont start watching baseball until October ( aka after the regular season) that's the only time it is exciting to me.

MLB teams give Dominican kids $50K all the time. They could easily do that with black kids that came up here in the US but choose not to. Before the strike in 1994, there were a good number of black players on every team. But since MLB lost a lot of money, they decided to go hunting in places like DR and Venezuela, where they get talent for pennies in addition to having more control over them.

I know this came out 5 years ago but I agree when I go to my home Towns ballpark I only see like 20 kids and most are little kids who’s parents forced them to come, I’m the only teenager who actually likes to go to ball games and watch baseball there’s got to be a change fast or there is gonna be no baseball

Many facts. I will say that as a White Sox fan and having attended many games through the years at its home park, the horribly named Guaranteed Rate Field, its good to see a fair amount of black fans with Sox gear and enjoying the game. And no, they're not really old in age. Many are young. NOW, I went to a Phillies game two years ago (beautiful stadium I will say) and there were NO black fans. Play Ball!

I loved baseball growing up watching double headers with my uncle's adding excitement and explanation to the game. But good God he's right. I hate baseball now at 42. I used to go to many games 15 yrs ago.

Most Foundational Black American, especially from the south, have a story about a black kid who could (naturally) hit, throw and run like no one they'd ever seen....and never made the league. Only thing more political than baseball is congress.

Or it’s just that superior black athletes are not more drawn to football and basketball, making viewership whiter, meaning even fewer black people will be interested in playing, making it even whiter.....so on and so forth. If it were pro wrestling they could book their way out of it but in a competitive sports league I’m not sure how they’re supposed to manufacture black stars out of nothing.

Watching this video nearly 7-years-later, I think Chris would be happy with where the game is going. Players are breaking the unwritten rules, and they have each other's backs. We can thank athletes like Tatis Jr, Acuña Jr, Vlad Jr, Mookie Betts, Lindor, Soler, Ozzie Albies, Trout, Arozarena, Machado, Ohtani, Stroman, Stanton, and (dare I say) Bauer. I think we'll see a HUGE surge in little league numbers, and baseball will make a big comeback. But I gotta say, the MLB trying out the runner on 2nd in extra innings, did pretty much nothing to shorten the game. Same with the automatic intentional walk. THAT will turn people away from the game.

The big thing I’ve noticed is almost all the black people in baseball are Dominican. There seems to be no black baseball idols. When I was growing up you had guys like Barry Bonds, Frank Thomas and Derek Jeter. Black kids growing up now idolize guys like Steph Curry and Lebron or Lamar Jackson and Pat Mahomes. They just don’t seem to relate to the black Dominican players.

i don't think basesball is terrified. and if you're gonna dig a sport, you're not gonna care if there's music and extra entertainment specifically designed for your culture. rock is turning into an old airhead who's running out of racist rants.

For example: NFL regular season game, Minnesota at Seattle 17.1million viewers; Game 6 when the Dodgers won the WS 8.9 million; NBA when the Lakers won the “title” 5.6 million. The NBA is in bigger trouble than MLB, but MLB’s viewership is disappearing, and not just because of lack of blacks, it minorities in general.

MLB is just too boring and bureaucratic to change into the modern era. It's run by too many Old heads who are stuck in the past and obsessed with tradition. It should be scrapped altogether and replaced with a new organization, one that is hip, cool, modern, with rule changes to allow for more action and a faster pace. If nothing changes it will shrink into irrelevance while others flock to other more exciting sports.

This is so true I’m a white guy but I’m in my 20s and this is just very true for not just Black people but our generation in general. Me and all my friends are diehard sports fanatics but we absolutely never talk about baseball basketball football we are obsessed with But like Chris is saying it’s because it is too slow too boring to old all the guys that are of any importance are old crotchety white guys they act like the hall of fame is this hallowed ground they keep out guys like Barry bonds in Roger Clemens the whole sport is just a joke at this point and it’s only still going because of grandparents

When Chris rock was growing up baseball was America's pastime. Not anymore! Both pro and college football are bigger and the NBA too! That's why there's no African Americans in baseball anymore. They're watching and participating in those other sports!

Baseball is a mostly white and Latino japanese sport now black sports are football and basketball and boxing

While Chris rock was giving his editorial, pre-slap of cost, I sure wish he would have mentioned about more than 3/4 of the offenses in the NFL is the quarterback doing nothing but chucking up passes, as the secondary have to worry about getting flags for passing interference , he should have also mentioned about how almost 90% of the offenses in the NBA are players taking three-pointers while playing almost absolutely no defense whatsoever. The main reason why MLB is making money is because their biggest fans are also the biggest money makers in America even if the price of admission and amenities at a MLB park keep going up season after season.(I think we all need to start taking up pickle ball.)

MLB would rather focus on International markets than our own backyard. Instead of London or Paris where the game is ridiculed by locals. They should host games in non-MLB US cities such as Indianapolis or Nashville and grow the game more here.
