Thank-you for this beautiful video. When I was Chrismated into the Orthodox Church two years ago, I took the Saint's name as my patron saint. Though I am unworthy of that name, I was drafted into the IDF at the same time as Saint Philoumenos was sent to Jacob's Well. I feel a strong connection to his story, and that of Saint Photine for whose legacy he was martyred. I venerate them daily.

I was inspired by this story as a newly illumined Orthodox Christian, but looking for more information on the matter, I came to an article that caused doubt in me. It’s titled “The ‘Martyrdom’ of Saint Philoumenos: the anatomy of a modern antisemitic ritual murder libel” by David Gurevich. Now, don’t get me wrong, I believe the Church is the New Israel, and even when I was a Protestant I never accepted Dispensationalism or “Christian” Zionism, but if the article is right the criminal records tell a different story than what is normally told about the martyrdom of the saint. I would like some guidance on this...

I cherish these memories since then.
