Oh my God, I love Mill Creek Z! I can definitely recommend the horror and sci-fi collections. Talk about days of entertainment. There is also a thriller set out there that is hard to find that is fantastic as well. Have you also noticed they bought the rights to a ot of BCI titles? Hmmmmm...

Mill Creek? I managed to get the complete series of the original Ultraman (1966) From that company for a handsome sum of about £8 (summin like $15?)

Ah Mill Creek Entertainment, cheap but safe. I see they tend to use the Ultraman method on some of those spagetti westerns, but it's better then nothing, after all these are cheap sets and I don't really mind the paper cases they are a lot better then those silly overlaying cases anyday. Oh an dthanks for teaching me that Peplum is Greek for tunic. :) Oh and when I saw that Warriors cover I instanly thought of 'This is Sparta'! :D

I love these DVD sets, I have some of the horror and science fiction ones and sure some of the movies suck, but all in all they are great value for money. I often go to stay with my mother for a week as she lives long enough away that it is hard to just go for the weekend. I find having a set such as this in my bags very useful as then I have entertainment the whole time I am there. :)

Ha, I remember a track on the Ennio Morricone "Movie Masterpieces" CD titled "Death Rides a Horse". Actually it's full title is "Kill Bill Vol. 1 (Death Rides a Horse)", so maybe Morricone did the music for "Death Rides a Horse" and Tarantino put it on the Kill Bill soundtrack. Or it's a coincidence of two films with the same title. Could probably find it out for sure on IMDB, but I'm too lazy for that right now :-)

I've got all of those Mill Creek sets and a few other Spaghetti Western sets from other companies. As long as the price is right, it's a great way to get a number of these movies. A company called Pop Flix has put out some Spaghetti Western sets and most of their titles are in anamorphic widescreen. I wonder if Mill Creek will release a set of EuroSpy flicks....?

Whoa. I think this may be the first time you mention Spaghetti Westerns in a video (at least since I've been watching). Death Rides A Horse is fucking incredible. I also really, really like Day of Anger and The Grand Duel (also starring Van Cleef). Can't forget the likes of Comaneros, A Town Called Hell, God Forgives I Don't, A Bullet for the General, Django, Sabata trilogy, Red Sun...I could go on and on. I love me some Spaghetti Westerns.

@Zaranyzerak I have a question about the spaghetti western 44 movie pack that you may be able to help me out with, i know a few of the films like death rides a horse and china 9 liberty 37 where sometimes released censored, especially in the u.s. can you tell me if the dvd contains the censored version of the movie or the original italian release? :)

Ответить
@yayap001
@yayap001 - 16.06.2011 11:46

@Zaranyzerak thanks for the info, I guess you get what you pay for, still not a bad deal though considering most of these films don't have a region 1 release but it is kinda lame about the fullscreen, widescreen format was made for spaghetti westerns.

@Zaranyzerak Ha, it's actually a very good piece of music, and it really sticks out because it's done quite simple, an acoustic guitar, piano, bass, flute, drums and Indian choir. Probably because it's one of his earlier soundtracks, cause he's very often used bigger orchestrations. Or perhaps it was a creative choice on his part. But very simple and effective. Haven't seen the film, but I am a big fan of Morricone's music. It's so classic and has a sound of it's own that's really unique.

@Zaranyzerak Hey, if you like spaghetti westerns you should def check out the euro crime genre. Action packed genre, too bad it didn't last that long. Anything from Enzo G. Castellari, Sergio Sollima or starring Franco Nero or Fabio Testi. Great vid as always.

I've noticed that a lot of the newer Mill Creek sets have featured quite a few films that are really good quality, uncut and in widescreen. It's kind of a nice surprise. I have a lot of overlap with my Mill Creek collections, but I'll continue to buy them when there are one or two films in them that I don't have. Like you said, it's the only way to get some of these movies. Thanks for the video. They're always informative and you have a very pleasant demeanor, which feels like listening to an old friend.

I bought the mill creek set with don't answer the phone. Don't answer the phone is one of my favorite sleazy horror movie. The transfer wasn't that great, but the other films were almost unwatchable. I love the movies but fuck..its the most horror quality possible...I want some real releases of these great films..

actually Kill Bill is actually inspired by Thriller A Cruel Picture AKA They Call Her One Eye in it's censored US version(censored in that version removes the eye gouging scene and some of the hardcore sex scenes) and Lady Snowblood(hell the final fight scene in Kill Bill Vol 1 is a near shot for shot remake of a scene from Lady Snowblood, plus the movie also uses the theme from Lady Snowblood) as for Mill Creek, I never got many of their budget releases save for Ultraman the complete series and the Drive in collection which has 200 B-movie and Exploitation flims on 50 disc(two movies on each side of a single layer flipper disc) and the quality on alot of the movies aren't bad, some are damn good the only low points were alot of the Blaxsploitation films in the set were really low quality but that looks due to the source they used. Lucky for me most of the Blaxsploitaion films they had I already had on DVD or could find for really cheap(talking 3-6 dollars) in better quality(transferred from a less worn out film print) so it didn't bother me too much, I mainly got it for the more rare and obscure films in the set(there were alot) which luckily were in decent to good quality minus the usual scratches and such you would expect from alot of these old Grindhouse films.

Nice collection. Speaking of Mill Creek. In 2012, DHX Media acquired the DIC catalogue and distributed them to Mill Creek and released a lot of great cartoons from the 1980's and 1990's that were distributed by DIC including "Heathcliff", "COPS", "Mask", "Inspector Gadget", "The Littles", "Super Mario Bros. Super Show", and many more. In the past, DIC started its Home Video division in 1987 and distributed by Golden Video and then later picked up by Goodtimes under the Kids Klassics brand. By the 1990's, it was distributed by Buena Vista Home Video since Disney bought the DIC library and remained for a few years until 2001 when Disney lost the rights to the DIC stuff and ended up with Lionsgate to put out the DIC stuff on DVD that has the "Easy Play" feature with Inspector Gadget where he helps you navigate the menu. By 2005, Shout Factory bought the DIC stuff after Lionsgate lost the home video rights, by 2008, when DIC closed its doors and folded into Cookie Jar, it ended up with NCircle for the DIC stuff, and then in 2012, Cookie Jar became DHX Media and the Home Video distributor that owns the DIC library goes to Mill Creek. What an interesting history on DIC and the home video divisions.
