This series is like the lord of the rings trilogy, 3 hour episodes and fighting the ev orcs (ea america) along the way
ОтветитьFeel a weird sense of pride as an Ioniq 6 owner watching it keep pace with way more expensive EVs
ОтветитьWatched the entire video. Time flew by as it was very exciting to watch. Can't wait for the next episode to see the finish! 😀
ОтветитьThe Porsche would have done better if it had the correct tire pressure.
ОтветитьHave been a dedicated ev household for 3 yrs and done many extended road trips. However, currently have a suburban rental while the rivian is in service and I kinda forgot/miss the convenience of a quick fuel stop on long road trips and without the hassle of pre planning ev stops.
ОтветитьThis is so much better than watching TV. Excellent production.
ОтветитьROFL @ Robert - Right hand man.
ОтветитьI remember back in 2013 when I had my Leaf and I'd see Teslas charging at 120 kW. I've never been so envious before or since. Now everyone complains about 120,000 watts!
ОтветитьState of the art EVs hampered my poor software and charging infrastructure. Loved the video. All the teams (except the Acura) did an excellent job during the I-90 surge. I am looking forward to the final stage. Plenty of tips about navigation, charging and ADAS.
ОтветитьI grew up in Mitchell, SD! Fun to see the Corn Palace. It used to be a very busy Main Street but the inteerstate came and drew the shopping North if the interstate. A great place to grow up.
ОтветитьMan the 3 in the Lucid seem completely clueless about road tripping and charging effectively. Their mistakes and fear are silly.
ОтветитьCan’t wait for pt4/4, UK
ОтветитьThe team in the Acura just mocking everyone else’s cars. “We had to cut AC” 😂🤣
ОтветитьI have given out of spec my entire life with these videos.... and I LOVE IT!
ОтветитьCool series! Why is no one using A Better Route Planner? Seems like many teams are struggling with efficiency calculations and have to drive slower or do fewer stops than they should
ОтветитьI love coming to the conclusion that “This is the first BMW to roadtrip!”😂
ОтветитьCome on Out of Spec Dave with 65mph in the Lucid! I did the I-90 trip in the Lucid and that 85mph is stressful in SD so I feel you. I had to draft behind several trucks and had them so mad at us just to make it to the next charger🥴
ОтветитьHAHA the "nice" made me rewind to double check that it actually popped up
ОтветитьIt's wild how much the Teslas had to use Electrify America. You'd think it would be the opposite if you spent more than 2 minutes on Reddit lol
ОтветитьBMW i7 brought to you by Stern Oil!!
Ответить"since I know Chicago so well, I picked a place to charge... Cicero" I spit out my drink haha
ОтветитьOh man! I just finished the drive from Sioux City, South Dekota. Nice area. That drive back to the Chicagoland area. Did it in a '24 Model Y Long Range. Did fine but always be sure to account for change in temp and wind. The system doesn't seem to work well at guessing anymore for % of arrival. It's so far off now it's scary. In total I drove 575 today (a drive to Starbucks for these guys, lol!) and 3 days ago the same to get there. Car did well. FSD did...fine. In total it drove 1275 through the 4 day weekend. As long as you pay attention and take over when it's spooked by absolutely nothing for miles around you will be fine. Anyway, the car itself was fantastic and the chargers... Well let's just say they need to be upgraded and keep updated on the GPS. Parking stall lines for charging would be nice as well. On the way there the maps system missed multiple Tesla chargers that when on the way home were magically available to go to. Seeing mucho bugs in software now days. I wish they would take a month or two and just clean bugs. Thanks guys for an awesome videos series!!! I had a taste of that crazy drive they had and I honestly don't know how they do it.
ОтветитьYou know Kyle is tired when he says "put it in reverse" and doesn't follow it up with Terry.
ОтветитьI wish Dave would let someone else on the Lucid team speak every now and then.
ОтветитьIt's fun to see all the I-90 charging stops I made at the end of August but I left I-90 to drop down into Iowa on my way to South Carolina.
ОтветитьIt sure seems like you guys, spent the majority of your charging times at EA vs tesla charging. Any analysis on this.
ОтветитьI’m just thinking that app is so cool to keep track of the cars what was it?
Ответитьok chop chop OOS, it's been 2 days, I need that part 4/4
Ответить@Gjeebs made this video for me. That part of Mr. Carter plays in my head way too often.
ОтветитьRobert wins this race : he makes it so much fun to watch! Let him be Colton’s right hand man anytime!😂😂😂
ОтветитьTeam BMW walked over to Arbys when there was a Kwik Trip right there in Tomah.
ОтветитьHi.
Am I the only one in thinking that the Ioniq 6 team is not optimizing/using the Ioniq 6 (EGMP platform) to the utmost?
From everything I’ve seen about the EGMP cars is that they have a flat curve for 70% of the battery. (Meaning if you start charging at 10% it will go to 80% in the 18minutes or so, and if you start at 0 it will go to 70% in the 18 minutes, and so on.)
Based on that fact alone, the EGMP cars should NOT be driven like a Tesla, where you drive to 0 or 6% and then charge at a fast rate.
I think that the car should be driven by charging 70%, 10-80% most optimal range, and should be driven in that 70% range… based on estimated efficiency should try to get to the furthest point within that 70% range, and should try NOT to go below 10%. With 340mile EPA range, the 70% range give the effective range of 240miles max, 200mile real world, so the charging station hops should fall within that 180-240 mile range.
So, I would have tried the following drive optimization, drive to the closest charging station nearest 10% state of charge, charge to 80%, or for 70%, whichever has the highest charge rate, and go to the next furthest 350kw charger within the 70% range of driving while keeping max allowable speed per rules, and if you arrive above 10% even better because your charge would be shorter than 18 mins. And so on.
(Realizing not every charge will be perfect)
Driving to 0% on the EGMP cars is proving, in the “race to Vegas” and this “90 surge”, that is not a good strategy.
I also feel that the ford F150 lightning should have been driven in the coast to coast race this way as well, between 10-80%, but for the Ford it may have been better to charge from 18-25% to 80%. Based on charging curve data from Tom Mologney testing. It still would have lost but not by that amount of time.
@Kyle Connor - I would love to see you drive and optimize the EGMP cars this way for one of these long trips.
I suspect the EGMP cars would perform better in this mode/style of optimization.
My 2 cents.
@theioniqguy or has this been tried before with bad results?…
This video shows that even with three experienced BEV and tech persons per car spending a tremendous amount of effort trying to optimize charging times, and they still weren't even close to the ICE Acura who nonchalantly filled up the tank when they needed gas, shows BEVs are not trip cars yet for the average non-nerd driver. And was it any cheaper than gas (you need to show the trip cost)? Did I see 64 cent/kWhr? Not cheap.
ОтветитьWhat's up with the Taycan's low tire pressure light on the whole time?
ОтветитьAs I've owned two Hyundai EV's, original 28kWh Ioniq and now new 2024 Kona EV top spec, am watching the Ioniq 6 closely as I like the car but was hoping the Lucid would be closer to the Taycan than it has been. Basically in prairie land during this trip for a lot of it anyway. Love the promo spot for the Oil company that Kyle and the i7 crew did spur of the moment thanks to drafting their truck. :)
ОтветитьObservations from an EV fan in UK:
1. Lucid and Model S are not sold in UK so ignore those
2. The race is kind of pointless if the model 3 can access a much larger network of chargers than anyone else. Not the case in UK.
3. Cruising at 85mph everywhere is not how I tend to do long drives, also I stop every 4 hours or so for a meal.
4. My island is small and I basically never have to drive more than about 500 miles in one trip.
5. The video is good entertainment, but it would be better if I knew who was winning. Like an F1 style leaderboard in the corner
I make snarky comments about electric vehicles but I do have to say you do us a service by showing how this is done and the different manufacturers and powertrains and the difference between the new vehicles and the older ones. I do like the concept but there needs to be an even more robust and reliable infrastructure.
I do think that there needs to be a standard for all connections and compatibility between devices and charging stations. I think the concept that BYD has with the onboard generator is something to look at.
I would just have a caterpillar diesel generator on a trailer that I would hook up and pull with my Tesla. All jokes aside that would probably not be good for the battery. It would probably burn it up rather quickly.
I love the shout out to the oil company LOL!!!
ОтветитьGo Team Ioniq!!!! Corbin, Lacey and Mike. I LOVE my 2024 AWD SE trim Ioniq6. Bought for 38K in North Carolina.
ОтветитьHyundai software just sucks sooo badly lol
ОтветитьThat Taycan is ridiculous on 800V
ОтветитьThroughout each segment it's difficult to see relative positions along the route for all the cars. Some are showing this on their cell phones but it would be nice in post editing you show an edited Google map where each car is in relation to the others. Great series.
ОтветитьFinally! Someone cleans their windshield. Thank you Genesis team
ОтветитьWhy is everyone parking like morons when they stop to charge? EV drivers already have a pretentious reputation, don't contribute to it by parking like idiots.....
