How do antibiotic-resistant bacteria impact fish and water ecosystems?

EPI member Benjamin Anderson, Ph.D., and a team of faculty and students from the University of Florida evaluated water and fish samples collected from two water sources in Michigan for the presence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). ARGs are a marker for the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria that may be present in the environment. These findings will help scientists better understand the impact ARGs and antibiotic-resistant bacteria may have on our ecosystems.
