I think you sympathize with him because this shows does a great job not being black or white.

The scene... It is really a painful scene to watch.

the Hiromatsu's seppuku scene is my favorite in the whole series, when Hiroyuki Sanada was asked who he wanted to play his friend Hiromatsu he asked his real life long time friend Tokuma Nishioka when he asked he said there will come a scene where we will have an entire conversation with our eyes and no words, and the reason Sanada said his friend would be the best for the role is they knew each other so well for so long..

now go watch the seppuku scene again and see what masterful acting is
