They had remote radio devices that could be spliced into any vehicles can bus or even combined with a cleverly disguised actuator or servo so that any vehicle even old ones lacking a ECU could be accessed by a bad actors and within a few minutes they could install a device that could trigger brakes or throttle body and drive a car into a wall or off a cliff. This tech would have been available to any intelligence agency 50 yrs ago. That this is possible isn't even a question it's a certainty and has been for decades. The real question is who would have been the people to take on this operation and who's direction were they taking action for.

The 2013 mercedes c250 coupe did NOT have drivers assist. So a separate remote control would have had to have been added, and would have been in the wreckage. In the newer high end vehicles there is a possibility. In a 2013 low end C class, not a chance without severe modifications to the vehicle.

Wouldn’t all you need is somehow put a switch in the car to give the control to someone with the remote control and then the guy with the remote control just hits the accelerator button all the way just like on a remote control small toy car

With that knowledge alone, would it be a stretch to think that people with access to high technology in 2013 could remotely, (or by surreptitiously installed hardware), hijack a Benz, lock the doors and make it accelerate uncontrollably? I don’t think that’s much of a stretch at all.

Im no expert but if you watch the crash scenes for PAUL WALKER , MICHAEL HASTINGS & QASEM SOLEIMANI (Iranian general) you will notice the same thing in common what appears like a drone strike. It sounds almost impossible. However in Hastings situation it likely was a combination of both remote car jacking and drone strike or possible he was chased down & blown up by a drone that engine flew out far from his car
