Great news!!! The professionals did a good job! A big step forward!!! Good to see!!
ОтветитьI hope that everything works out for you. Not to second guess, but I believe that the hull flex was a major contributor to the failure. Did they add additional layers of fiberglass between the ribs? Not a lot of extra work or expense...
ОтветитьThanks for explaining the process! Wishing you all the best for the next steps.
ОтветитьYour boat structure and your determination and love for each other is being rebuilt stronger than before too! You guys speak great English. I love sauerkraut too.
ОтветитьWater must not go in the layers of the composite, so epoxy must close the surface.
Ответитьbuen trabajo...el vacio hace la diferencia.
ОтветитьWas hat es denn gekostet? Super gemacht 😅
ОтветитьHi to Hi
interesting to see how it works. Looks pretty good, it's going to be slow.😜
Happy new year, here’s to a good 2025.
ОтветитьThe repair methodology looks very good and as you say you are gaining a lot of experience throughout the process. This will provide the confidence you need to sail away stress free upon completion. Do not rush the process and fit in as many other projects and voyage planning tasks while the main repairs are ongoing. Good start to 2025.
ОтветитьI never expected to accel so much. Gratulations.
ОтветитьLooks like those guys did a great job on the grp strengthening. IF there is still movement when the keel goes back on then it’s a design issue rather than just a structural failure. It’s a tall keel with a relatively small area where it connects with the hull so I guess there is a good deal of lateral force present when sailing. The join has to be super strong for sure 👍
ОтветитьI love that they are moving forward with the repairs. As I mentioned in another video, this has just been a stumbling block in your plans, but you have a life ahead of you.
If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans!! ❤❤❤❤
It is unfortunate that the delamination with your boat haul out happened. With the other defects that became apparent during the survey from the dry glass fibre voids etc. In my estimation is a blessing. You will now have a boat that you can feel confident in it's structure, when you head out on your world cruise. Its stronger, defects in manufacturing repaired. The silver lining is your boat will be better than new. I look forward to watching the final repairs and your adventures on your world cruise.
ОтветитьNice that boat is 10x stronger than when it left the factory
ОтветитьNur Matte, kein Gewebe? Bin grad sprachlos und weiß nicht was ich davon halten soll. Gedanken eines Bootsbauers. Gruß Paddy
ОтветитьWhen will the keel sump be tabbed into the radial frames ? The sump / trunk has not been worked adequately. All of the wires and hoses cannot hide this complete failure to build the keel plate sufficient to hang a deep spar torpedo bulb keel. This Grand Soleil Yachts design was discontinued ten years ago. The bilge coat needs to be interlux epoxy barrier goat. Gel Coat is not a repair top coat . PVA activation is essential. Osmotic blister coat prevention has not been completed either. The Balsa core is visible. Research the Gougeon Brothers "WEST" SYSTEM. Wet Epoxy Saturation Techniques. Your e glass lay up schedule was not bi-axial carbon fiber cloth. Why not? I am a boat builder. Please get the WEST Complete Boatbuilders Manual. The Gougeon Brothers on Boat Construction: Wood & West System Materials. The frames were carbon fiber ribs. 206 vs 205 is fast vs slow. The "pros" added filler. It should have been slow cure 205 for maximum strength. 24 hour cure vs 2 hour set. Mike Plant/ Coyote was lost in the Atlantic with a torpedo bulb keel catastrophic failure. So did SV Drum in the Southern Ocean. He was asleep aboard his 78-foot maxi-yacht Drum when the keel broke off the hull due to a design failure. The boat capsized, trapping Le Bon ... Where is your SOLAS approved life raft on deck ? Registered EPIRB. Get years of coastal cruising before you think you are prepared and ready for bluewater Atlantic crossing to your next destination. Safe destination is local knowledge at the Canaries. Every prudent mariner has advised you. Nautor Swan hopefully is your next step.
ОтветитьLooks like a great me mechanical bond structural rebuild.. The coving is very important due to fiberglass not being able to bend at 90 degrees, which would leave gaps under new glass (stess riser. Fracture point). Looking great
ОтветитьGood video 👍
Ответить❤🎉😊
ОтветитьEs geht voran …sieht für mich als Laie total ok aus … wie seht ihr das?.
ОтветитьWhat a great result, and now a great STRONG passagemaker boat 🎉
ОтветитьI am deeply skeptical that the repair was "infused". It was almost certainly a wet layup that was vacuum bagged. Infusion would involve pulling a carefully measured quantity of resin into the dry glass mat with vacuum from a container. It's not generally used for repairs like this.
Ответить🎉Good , good , good 🎉🎉 very happy to see you both pulled through this challenge. Very well done and building up from here 🎉🥳
Go for it ! Good luck 👍🏻
While this procedure may get adhesive into all the crevices under the flange of the stringer, no surface preparation could or was performed. Over time those surfaces which seemed poorly injected by the factory would buildup with mold and be a very poor surface for adhesion. You have backed it up with a few, seems like about 5 layers of cloth, that may well be all you needed. Still does not get my approval. The boat is stripped and that’s the time to do best job possible which is to rip old adhesive out, prep surfaces and then do the work you performed. Compared to most sail boats the height of these stringers is small requiring really good adhesion across the stringer to secure the loads on the keel.
ОтветитьWell, that was surprisingly good progress! Happier days!
ОтветитьSo what was the cause of the damage and why did the insurance company agree to pay? Simple bad manufacture would not be a reason, would it?
ОтветитьLooking good. 👍
ОтветитьSo many "emotional enabler" commenters who have no clue what they are talking about
ОтветитьGlad to see there is no added "drama", just mostly the interesting parts in the video.
The work done on the boat seems to be high quality.
So glad for you guys. When it’s all said and done you will know your boat so much better and be able to have confidence in it. You guys persevered under difficult conditions and came out on top. Good for you.
ОтветитьNice job. Looks good. I am Happy for you guys. The boat is definitely stronger than when it was built.
Ответитьgreat news happy new year
ОтветитьI wold be happy with that repair... Nice job... The structural integrity of the hull to ribs is good... Very nice glassing job, and vacuum bagged is perfect... And now, you guys know more about yacht construction than most people...
ОтветитьHappy new year glad to see your new year is stating great made up for the both of you happy new year 🎊🎊🎊🎊 all the best from Andy ❤❤❤❤
ОтветитьSo: was the boat new when you bought it? If not you cannot know if she has ever grounded. If it was a manufacturing defect: this might be acknowledged by the manufacturers but if the boat is ten years old, would they? I thought initially that the yard had dropped her or lowered her onto her cradle wrongly but I haven't heard you suggest that. Or do you have a catch all insurance that just says that you must have had some sort of accident somewhere and they will cover it. I wish my car insurance was that good!
ОтветитьIt is frightening to think that you actually went to sea in that boat, in the condition it was supplied from new. Let's hope that the "fix" will make it at least as strong as it should be. I would test such a reconstruction out in coastal waters in a rough sea, BEFORE, refitting all the furniture etc. So that close inspection of all repaired areas can be surveyed AGAIN.
ОтветитьGteat to see this progress, a good start for 2025 for you guys, so pleased for you. Have a great week, looking forward to the next video 🥰
ОтветитьWhat a FANTASTIC start to the NE YEAR !!!! SO Happy for the two of YOU ! HOORAY !! 🎉🎉🎉
ОтветитьThank God. Someone decided the voids in the frames are filled with epoxy. I suppose that gives them the required strength. But then again.....cruise the Med this year, learn the ropes and your boat. The Med is known for too much wind or too less. Which provides a great Kindergarten for newby sailors. Mistral, Bora and Meltemi scaring the shit out of you and then gliding in a gentle breeze. Islandhopping in Greece is lovely. And then, by the end of 2025, final stop at Gibraltar and non-stop to the orther side of the pond. Maybe join the ARC.
ОтветитьThis is a very interesting video. I am curious though. How did you discover the structural issues in the first place. I have watched all you video's yet.
ОтветитьI like how you went over the process for infusion lamination for those who have no idea what it is. I especially enjoyed it because I started laminating holes and decks and all sorts of things including aircraft back in 92 so it was rather fun to listen
ОтветитьYay massive progress. Best wishes 😊
ОтветитьSo are you paying for the repairs yourselves?
ОтветитьWell, good luck with that! When things are sorted out I am sure we would all like to know whose insurance paid out (yours, the yard's, the manufacturer's) or someone else's and whether it was covered under accident damage, product liability or error by an employee. I rather suspect there will be a confidentiality clause in the settlement so perhaps we will never know. If you ever pass through the north of Scotland please drop in and we can have a chat!
ОтветитьGood job, you will be in the water soon.
ОтветитьWhat time is it where you are - shouldn't you be in bed?! I hope the worry/excitement is not keeping you awake?
ОтветитьIt's going the right way! Building up is always more funny. Counting the days to splash her again ;-) 👌👌👌
