I love this experiment. Suddenly, in the past few months or so, I've been smelling this on my hands almost all the time. I'm probably calling myself out here, but it smells very garlicky to me. I often think I'm smelling food, but in the context of the situation, it makes no sense, and that's typically when I realize it's just my hands. For the life of me, though, I cannot figure out where it comes from. Lol I always thought it was my vape because it has a metal case, but the vape itself never smells and I'm pretty sure it's made of aluminum. After this, I'll have a better idea of what the culprits could be. I also definitely thought the metal was the source of the odor as opposed to the oils. So interesting!!

ОтветитьThe fact that the "metal smell" is the result of a chemical reaction between metal and oils on the skin has been obvious to me since childhood. However, it was extremely interesting to dive into it in such detail. Many thanks!

ОтветитьDid you say there is iron in skin? Or iron in blood? I’ve always thought that blood tastes the same as metal, and as we know most of what we call taste happens at the olfactory receptors.
So how are the metal/skin and blood/skin reactions similar? Is it the iron levels in blood or something else?
