Huge difference between localized air pollution and the pollution from the energy supplier. It's like trying to compare someone smoking in your backyard vs someone smoking in your kitchen while your having a meal.

Politicians ARE being advised by scientists. These are not arbitrary decisions. Specially when lobbyists from the Oil companies and Auto manufacturers are trying to prevent these mandates with unlimited piles of money. We need to stop assuming always the worst from government just because we hate politicians. We need a more nuanced discussion and we need to follow the money on these issues.

Having been a Tesla owner for 5 years now I can't believe the nonsense I regularly hear from people about EVs. I've given up trying to argue with them now because I know I'm just wasting my breath! I've just taken my car down to my local garage for its MOT test (the annual safety and road-worthiness test that every car older than 3 years is subjected to in the UK by law). It was very clear that the employees were all very anti EV. They said they would refuse to test it but they're not allowed to (because of regulation). Basically they were in fear of their lives from the risk of electrocution! I asked them how people they knew of who'd been electrocuted by EVs. Apparently there's been "loads" of incidents they've heard of within the industry but they were all told to keep it hushed up! Yeah, of course they were! Anyway, my Tesla passed its inspection with flying colours and nobody died or suffered an electric shock!

Very good YT. You adressed excellent points in vafour of EV´s especially TESLA. I was driving TESLA (100xd-Europe) for 7 Yrs. no problem with fast and general charging. My consumption was 2,2L Diesel equivalents/100km .My old beloved Volvo uses 9,5L/100km.Its all about efficiancy. I do have now a mod3Performance my wife drives a modYperformance. Both of them excellent no service needed at all. Not to talk about AP and self driving. The problem is that other OEM Car manufacturers are bringing EV´s which are not according to there marketing promisses. A good friend of mine bought an Audi e-tron. He did not like "Elon Musk" even I had an modX100d a splendid EV . He did some test rides with my car. Bought at the end this underperforming e-Tron. At the end he gave it back and changed it for a gas Audi 🙈 Same stories with BMW EV´s, NIO´s you name it... TESLA is the leader in EV technology by far and I dont know anyone in my T community which would buy another EV than Tesla. If batteries became cheaper and TESLA is offering a lower priced car than this would change the whole market. VW made a big mistake in not cooperating with Tesla on the ID3. By the way the whole climate/CO2 issue is complete nonsense. I was always pro nature and against pollution at all. Especially in cities. Thats why I am pro EV´s...

We have to go to war with entire nations just to maintain petrol incentives. 😂 if we live in China and Norway than yes, its being pushed. US? Have you seen the news? Nothing but fake news about ev. They couldnt wait for a Tesla to get in a car accident or burn. 😂

Hi Ben! Great break down of EV myths spouted out by Rogan. I’ve watched several of your series on EV misinformation and I have one general critique. Your conception that governments shouldn’t play any role in EV adoption is gravely misguided. To me, you seem know EVs are nearly superior to ICE in every way. Most importantly EVs are better for humans’ health and reducing climate change. But yet you feel uncomfortable forcing people to use EVs. Markets aren’t always free and fair and sometimes governments have to intervene to make changes. For example, how all gasoline is mandated not to contain lead. Your freedom to use leaded gasoline has been taken away and we are all better off for this decision. Have seen National Geographic’s Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey hosted by Neil DeGrasee Tyson? I strongly suggest you watch episode titled “A Grave Threat.” You’re undermining your own EV advocacy when you’re against EV mandates.

The point that people miss when they say that EV's lose range in the cold, is that ICE cars lose range in the cold too. It is not uncommon to get 10-20% less range out of a tank of gas in the winter. And in the extreme cold climates where you have to plug your ICE car into a block heater to keep it from freezing, an EV just starts up and goes, in that extreme cold climate, the EV can be more reliable than an ICE car.

If EVs are not good in cold weather then how come Norway (which has the most EVs per capita) has no issues with it? It's extraordinary how little knowledge petrol heads have of EVs. Secondly as to mandates to stop ICE car production, yes, freedom is important, but does that freedom not extend to the generation after us who will suffer most from our actions or inactions?

It is an interesting outlook that because other countries are not at 100% renewable our one car does not make a difference and so we should just give up. If we all did that we would still be living in caves and banging rocks together.

Check RethinX (Tony Seba, Adam Dorr), said: 1) they investigated "technological disruptions", — case when new, better (by some parameter('s)) technology. And they find: a) its goes because of decreasing cost, and "cost curve" — is function of Exponential decay ("величина подвержена экспоненциальному убыванию, если она уменьшается со скоростью , пропорциональной своему текущему значению", dN/dt = – aN, N — value, a > 0 — constant of Exponential decay, speed of decay), becuase constant decreasing of coast when you have increasing production x2; and b) it take about 15 years for replacing old technology with this new one.
2) they said that we in start this changes in energy production (new king is solar + battery), and transport (new king for auto here — EV + autopilot, robotaxi and carshering),...

3) ...and it will be done about 2035 year.

So your "...in 2035", — it is wrong prediction, according it. So please check it for us! Thank you!

You are still absolutely free to choose a horse and carriage if you are nostalgic and don't want to move into the future. The problem with the Porsche 911 is that eventually it will be expensive and difficult to find somewhere to get fuel. Practicalities will kill ICE vehicles.

It is also possible to charge at home from a home solar system and then how does the pollution comparison look. Also forgotten is the fact that the EV approach is fully sustainable and the batteries can be recycled. Over 95% of the battery materials are recoverable and fully reusable over and over. Batteries are already being supplied with lifetime warranties or 600 000 miles. The future is here and it is beautiful.
No more toxic, smelly, loud, polluting shiny pieces of crap.😀

EV batteries cope well with low temperatures, particularly when sitting idle. They actually degrade less when stored in a cold temperatures compared to a hot climate. It's just the higher internal resistance in low temperatures that can be an issue that affects charging speed. But the cars usually have software to control that so the battery won't be damaged by charging too fast.

Have owned an EV for 4 years. ICE enthusiast for my entire life. Used to change my oil, fluids, rotate my tires, mod my exhaust, carb, later my fuel injection, etc. But my EV is a life changing experience. No engine, practically no maintenance , swoosh past gas stations. We have solar panels and a Level 2 charger. This AYN Rand attitude of “self interest “ leading to consumer adoption over time is kinda right, but unless you poke a little, people will take forever to switch to EVs, and the corporate Oil industry will do everything to sabotage EV adoption. I mean Porsche EVs are amazing and the power delivery is amazing.

The thumbnail is of Joe Rogan and Leon Musk. Nothing intelligent will come out of this.

Regarding charging times, these two facts are true: my EV spends way more time being charged than my petrol cars spent being fuelled; I spend way less time charging my EV than I spent fuelling my petrol cars. If you value your car's time over your time, buy a petrol car.

The efficiency of newer diesel engines is the same nonsense as the pharmaceutical industry's argument about the effectiveness of some of their drugs.
If you take the drug you have a 0.005% chance of dying and if you don't it's 0.02. It increases your chance of survival by 400%.
Really crappy inefficient engines, improved by 400% are still really crappy inefficient engines, they just aren't "as crap" as they used to be.

If you don`t like the politicans to decide for you (like they did here in Norway), who else than the scientists to listen to? Greetings to the politicans listen to them. And why do we elect them if we do not want them to decide? Maybe there is a time when we have to power the dirt buggy and the 911 other ways? Maybe there are more important things in life than to be the one to decide what fuel our vehicles run on? Me to like a 911 but i know it can be even faster and much more balanced as an ev. I know that the leisure cars will not be those to ruin the climate but there is an example to what we do. I am so happy we have been given a proper alternative to ice. (whom all in all will ruin the climate). we are given an alternativ even better in most ways. If there should be a way it is not as good or better; God forbid we have to forsaken anything. Even a feeling (of rumbeling ice) because we westerens are those that matters on this planet. Besides we are mostly midaged and not that much will change within our lifetime.
