Bro. You just have no idea how much this, the difficult things you’ve gone through time and time again, aligns and relates to my life. I’m seen as a social and positive and friendly person by nearly everyone in my life because it makes me feel good to put that image forward, that’s when I feel most like myself. Except I let people in and unfortunately, many assume they can treat me in a negative way after getting comfortable. Others start rumors and fabricate stories to paint an image of someone who is bad, fake, and has malicious intent and I can go through this whole wave of logical emotional resilience and tell myself that I clearly trigger them in some type of way for them to attack me (whether to my face or others) without proper reason, or virtually anything that really warrants their dislike (from my perspective, of course). It’s difficult because I am 100% aware that I am human and I screw up here and there, which is something I can say and whole heartedly believe, truly, but I get the sense that people feel my vulnerability and receptivity to criticism, because I assume they know that ‘m constantly looking for ways to better myself or gain a deeper understanding of the world and people around me, so I feel like they (sub)consciously use this to build up a story or case against me when they find something they don’t like, even if I have done the “right steps”. Then I withdraw and close myself off for months (or even days sometimes!) until I give them another chance and get faced with the same treatment and the cycle continues. I’m so emotionally drained. I just want to live a life where nobody, including myself, operates on an ego, in a world where everyone embraces that EVERYONE has flaws but that we can choose to practice gratitude and love for who people are and what they choose to bring to the table.
