Ceramides are known as the best ingredients to repair skin barrier and I got severe acne’s from them. Everyone will tell you how amazing ceramides are but no one talks about “how to incorporate them in your skincare regime” which is the most important thing. I am gonna share my experience with ceramides but first let’s see what actually ceramides are?
Ceramides contain unsaturated fatty acids (sphingosine). It enhances moisture retention capacity, rejuvenates skin surface, restores skin tone and helps maintain overall dermal wellness.
Ceramides is an amazing product but only when used cautiously especially if you are a beginner. I used ceramides daily for three weeks and it started causing acne after few days. I wasn’t using any other different product on my skin. Though ceramides acts as a glue to attract moisture but it needs to be layered with a good moisturiser to prevent dryness which ultimately leads to breakouts. I just used single ceramide lotion which was not enough for my dry skin.
How to incorporate ceramides?
As a beginner you must definitely go for sandwich method. It is a beginner friendly trick to incorporate products in your skincare routine.
Sandwich method: Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and then apply a good moisturiser all your face. Wait for a minute or so to get it into your skin and then layer it with a ceramide lotion. Lastly go in with another layer of moisturiser to lock in all the goodness of the skincare products.
Remember all these steps are extremely important otherwise it can lead to purging. Also, start it with 2-3 times use per week and only apply it at night & always apply sunscreen the next morning whether you are indoors or outdoors.
