What is the relationship between ADHD and Complex PTSD (CPTSD)?
Clinicians often find it challenging to differentiate between the two conditions. It's unclear which one typically precedes the other, leading to speculation about their connection. There is a theory suggesting that CPTSD can lead to the development of ADHD; however, there is insufficient research to support this hypothesis.
My clinical observations indicate that underdiagnosed ADHD may make children more susceptible to developing CPTSD later in life. Early intervention can provide essential resources, helping children build resilience against traumatic events and negative social-emotional environments.
