The ideas of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas, i.e. in this epoch "it is known" that planning doesn't work.
ОтветитьYou guys are finally speaking my language: math and software development
ОтветитьAn obvious question is, in what way is this more efficient and than the regulated market economies we have today?
ОтветитьDoes anyone have an information about how planned economies deal with flexibility/adaptability
ОтветитьIn Germany we have Korn, wich is significantly better than Vodka (it tastes the same).
Ответитьthis is exactly why nordics take trips to the baltic countries to buy vodka
ОтветитьGod I would love to see what communists could do with modern tech. Look what the soviets managed with rudamentary computers and pen and paper. 70 years they went from illiterate dirt scratchers under a king to rivaling the far better established industrial superpowers of the world. Theres also things like cybersyn, which made chile incredibly resistant to CIA meddling and extended the albeit still short time of allende.
So many companies already vertically integrate and plan their own internal economies. Imagine if you could do that with EVERYTHING. Every item calculated where it needs to be, when it needs to be there, how much, etc. Grocery stores waste how much food because they overbuy constantly, or electronics companies overmanufacturing components in the millions that never get used and only end up destroyed to ensure there isn't too much supply to drive down prices. Prices are controlled if present at all. People can't hoard goods and they don't go hungry either.
Honestly the most powerful part of applying communist ideology to economics is that you can just do things that are not profitable because your purpose in production is to provide, not to sell for profit.
Or an even bigger benefit, WE DONT HAVE A MILLION VERSIONS OF THE SAME PRODUCT. That alone would save so much in terms of resources. And no endless tide of cheap plastic shit. Children's toys are especially egregious in that regard.
Nice!
ОтветитьVery unf0ortunate how little we know about North Korean economics. Could be valuable knowledge.
ОтветитьClapped also means ugly in UK slang lol
Ответитьnice
ОтветитьI don't drink either, Habibi
ОтветитьOregon has a similar system for alcohol sales, all liquor stores are technically working for the state, and you can only get beer or wine at the grocery or convenience store. Beer and wine tend to be about the same price as other states though liquor tends to be more expensive.
Yugopnik: "I thought socialism was just shooting rich people"
JT: "Alright we're done." (Please, I don't want another visit from Homeland Security.)
I love Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic! I still can't play it, but doesn't matter! Failing at city planning is still fun!!!
ОтветитьN I C E
ОтветитьPlease guys, y’all need to have someone black on here or at least someone who understands how to use aave correctly.
ОтветитьEvery day, I mourn the death of Cybersyn. At least I can dream of cybernetic planning while playing Half Earth Socialism...
ОтветитьTrust the plan 🫡
ОтветитьGreat work guys. I do not have much deep knowledge of political side of planning but as software developer and student of data science I think it is very foolish to say that we don't have computing technology to plan economy in details. Technologically it is very easy to plan big multi national companies are already doing it.
ОтветитьSo many fricking ADs 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
ОтветитьI absolutely adore the comparison of certain games to a communist society. I find that almost every strategy game or colony sim is inherently pro communist. I could go further into that, but that's an essay I suppose I could write up later and do a video on, if I ever get to doing that with the other essays. But I feel that's one of the reasons I find myself agreeing to most communist lines of thought. I am absolutely in love with strategy, and maximising efficiency, and when you compare capitalism to communism, one very easily and obviously wins out over the other. Heck, even without all the AI and technology we have today communism still proved to be more efficent than capitalism, even though most of the planning was done by hand.
I suppose the TLDR is, if you play games you're probably a communist, and if you don't like video games you're lying to yourself.
Should talk to a paracon person next. I volunteer if the org isn't forthcoming.
ОтветитьFor the algorithm
ОтветитьEver since I read The People's Republic of Walmart (strongly recommend), I've had a fascination with cybernetic control systems.
But I can't do linear algebra. Is there any other way I might contribute?
Thanks for the great show guys. See you next time!
Math and communism, the two best things in the world put together.
ОтветитьVery interesting interview! Regarding the Austrian School of Economics it's also interesting to juxtapose the materialist approach of Socialist economics with the Austrian's explicit rejection of empiricism.
ОтветитьOH GOD
MATH
Nice
ОтветитьClap could also mean STD 😭
ОтветитьThis reminds of a university project i had to do. It was about automatically planning the operation of a powergrid. It worked really well:)
ОтветитьI can't do maths, we need a vibes based economy instead
ОтветитьThe biggest brain episode
ОтветитьThe title says Episode 69 but the thumbnail says Episode 70 - just informing
ОтветитьIt's abuse of the beer to store it at room temperature! Especially anything hoppy, you're going to lose a LOT of flavor and aroma in just two weeks
So sad
yeah gotta agree, texas style southern is one hell of a nice accent from our sweet southern communist bell
ОтветитьEpisode 69! Whoo!
ОтветитьYo Tomas Härdin!! I can tell this is going to be incredible
ОтветитьBring on Paul Cockshott
Ответитьfinally, the nerd episode!!!
jokes aside, I'm going into software development and think it would be really cool to see what open source software could do for socialist economic planning around the world. would love to see Tomas on the show again!
Oh fuck not math 😂🤣
ОтветитьMy brain is screaming, "Computetize the Logistics of Governance", always & at all times!
ОтветитьWhy is the title episode 69 (nice) but the thumbnail says episode 70?
ОтветитьStarcraft you say?
ОтветитьSorta wonder about the nuances of islam when listening to this, because on one hand we got Hakim, and then on the other we got the circassians that despite being muslim, do in fact drink alcohol and eat pork. Don't know much about religion in general, so kinda curious what determines why the circassians can accept stuff like that, but Hakim's part of the world can't.
ОтветитьThe Soviets, with the limited technology of the time they existed in, already made great advancements in industry, imagine if they had modern computers to do all the calculations for the economy. The problem of revisionism still exists, obviously, but the industrial growth would be unmatchable.
