Chuck Norris gave up drums when Mike Mangini came along. We all should.

I actually love this song. But sometimes I feel MM doesn't have that raw power of progressive drumming. There isn't warmth. I love his technicality. It's just the sound of the drums to me sounds muted or squeezed.

Epic playing from an amazing album.

I could play that song with at least 7 fewer cymbals and, 3 fewer toms and 1 less kick drum. This dude is the equivalent to the guitarists who used a wall of cabs to show they were cool.

Holy hell, he's hitting the drums hard as heck here. The cymbals almost folds in half LOL. Plays with such feeling/heart. Mangini is my favorite drummer.

I really wish the whole song would get posted from these camera angles. There’s another vid of the whole thing but the audio & vid are very low quality.

Im one of the fans who is missing earlier DT songs, but with current songs, i cant imagine that MP can play with the trend now

A cold overpolished production is really bad when you have a drummer with such inhuman precision and style of playing to begin with, unless you make electronic music or something that requires such coldness :P

As a lifelong Neil Peart worshiper, I have to wonder how Neil would compete against this style. Obviously Mangini has Neil's ability. It's like every song this Mangini guy plays is actual two songs, a right side and a left side, both mirror images of each other. This is the general theme of his playing. It may not be exactly like that, but I'm fairly certain I can pick up on this obvious ambidextrous display. Mangini is so technical. I aspire to his playing over Neil's, though my heart will always be Neils as a students is to master. Let's not forget about Neil's lyrics. "Wheels within wheels in a spiral array. A pattern so grand and complex (DNA). Time after time we loss sight of the way. Our causes can't see their effects." - Natural Science. Neil predicted AI in this song off Permanent Waves. "A quantum leap forward. In time and space. The Universe learned to expand. The mess and the magic. Triumphant and tragic. A MECHANIZED world out of hand. Computerize clinic. All these musicians in general are often super deep as individuals it seems.

A real pity DT is not gonna sound like this anymore :/ He is the best drummer for DT! MP is back but he is not as creative as MM...

So with every album Mangini has done i've noticed him doing WAAY more when playing live than on record. His playing on the record is really dumbed down, which is a huge bummer. I think for every album hes done. i first noticed it with his untethered angel vid he has up. damn thats a shame

I think he is one of the god of drum, his skill is no doubt about it and his title is a "Professor" otherwise Dream Theater all of them are Professor to in another words master in musician
