Even if you could scroll the dialogs one pixel at a time, the color memory cannot, alas.
ОтветитьLove the throw back to AmigaOS with the custom screens and pull down!
ОтветитьMy first experience with a computer was @ 12 years old and on a C64 and games, programming, BBS systems all felt like magic. At 16 I moved onto x86 systems and networking, LANTASTIC, etc... which was magical again and Ive been in IT for 35+ years now. I watched this last night and to see the development that went into a 40 year old system and all the amazing stuff that the programmer made the C64 do once again just amazed me and I went to bed thinking... Wow, that was magical to see. Thanks for putting together this video and to the programmer(s) who put that kind of work into a system so many people love and enjoy 40 years later.
ОтветитьInsane! It would be cool that we can use this os on emulations, C64 mini console for example. One of things that i would like to have in update is basic midi composer that will use all cid chip capabilities. As composer i would get me real C64 and use it for making chip tune music. ;)
ОтветитьI wonder if it works on a Turbochameleon64
ОтветитьDoesn't the C64 come with the OS preinstalled?
ОтветитьI think Ai will help us make software that we cannot think off today. Just like this guy made software for the c64 that people could not think off back in the day., :-)
ОтветитьI don't know much about this genre but what I'm gather is people are taking these antique computer technologies and writing new software and adapting new hybrid hardware for them?
Ответитьif it could handle Cyrillic i wish to use it for book writing in .tex
ОтветитьI had the Commodore 64 tape deck disk drive and printer plus a few games. I wish I could find another set up with some of the games I had. I used it so much I wore out everything. Anyone knowa where I can find all of it again?
ОтветитьWhere did you get that awesome wooden monitor stand?
ОтветитьThanks for the video. It was actually extreme useful to see that this software would be of absolutely no use for my needs, and is more of a novelty than for doing anything useful. Spending averted!
ОтветитьSo its sorta like its windows for the C64 ?? Useful instead of typing all that stuff.
ОтветитьThis is a gold mine!
ОтветитьWow loud music. Had to stop watching.
ОтветитьGrew up using the c 64 and part of me is asking...does it really need an operating system .. part of me would just wants to use it the old school way .
ОтветитьWhy is it that these videos seem to be aimed at 5 year olds rather the adults who are more likely to be interested in these computers? They could be so much better with the silly crap and sound effects removed. Just some honest constructive criticism.
ОтветитьHave an other question btw. How you get an PC Mouse running on an C64? Did i miss some Videos?
ОтветитьIs anyone using this interesting OS with an original breadbin and an Ultimate II+? I want to like it. Any other videos out there for this use case?
ОтветитьI was hoping that after a year there would be a more completed version with new features, I was instead a bit disappointed to find out that apart form some bug fix the OS is still the same as a year ago and it feels somewhat not complete.
ОтветитьDude is like Bob Ross with computers
ОтветитьI must admit that this is pretty impressive, considering the memory limitations of the C64.
ОтветитьComing from the Computer Science point of view these machines were quite capable machines. What was bad was the peripherals in the 80s. I grew up on these 8 bits. Today we have those high speed peripherals. So there is a lot of things today that are possible that 40 years could not have been imagined. With all that said this is awesome accomplishment and I will be purchasing in the near future. Awesome review and video!
Ответитьwhat nutcase would buy that? people loved the 64 for what it was, not because they want some lame piece of trash os for it 41 years later. Some bonehead trying to cash in off gullible people.
Ответитьthe "french canadian" (laugh) created a crappy version of geos.
ОтветитьIts a Nice OS for a 42 years old system. 😊
If i should have designed it, i Think i would have made a userport device with a kind of accelerator, and memory bank Rio Unit combined with a Floppy or sd2iec Unit. Would speed up things a lot. But would make it more costly. But it would live outside The mainmemory, and let more software be able to run native.
Best from both World.
Hard to get everything in one packet.
What does this new OS can do ?
ОтветитьI love chiluahuas, mine is a toy breed.
ОтветитьMove it over to the C128! Before PC's I used GEOS128 for writing and printing all my work documents, etc.. More elbow room on the C128 screen.
ОтветитьIn terms of getting updates for old tech I guess the record holders are the board comupters of the Voyager probes :D
ОтветитьWoohoooo!
ОтветитьThis is a very detailed and interesting video makes me love my C64 & C128 even more. What model of Sony monitor is that by the way.
ОтветитьYeah, well done to the developer but I wouldn't use it.
ОтветитьI didn't know that something like this would exist. Wow!
ОтветитьGUI desktop is not the way for 8-bit computers!
OR ANY OTHER COMPUTER
I REALY LOVE MY C64 ❤❤❤❤ FOREVER ❤❤❤❤
ОтветитьHow many monitors are you using for this video? I see a Sony, as well as a 1084S. Great vid BTW!
ОтветитьI love this..altho I would pefer to add items such as games to a top down menu vs icons.Having said that..good work!..Would be nice to see this on a crt image since crt's can hold multiple files.
ОтветитьHave you ever considered getting a logo?
ОтветитьI feel that GEOS from 1988-ish (version 2.0) still offers a more complete, modern experience with its full bitmapped graphics and applications suite (geoWrite, geoPaint, geoPublish, geoFile, etc.) and my personal goal is to get useful output from it, something I can print on a modern printer or send with an email.
It seems that requiring a filesystem with directories has limited the new OS in terms of not running on C64Mini, BMC64, etc. I use a 1541-II connected to a Windows XP PC as the link between the modern world and my C64. By not using 1541 drives, C64OS seems to break that link.
I’m just not sure what I’d do with it, but I do respect that lots of work has gone into it, and the delivery is particularly impressive, as long as you embrace that SD card solution (which I don’t) :)
Fat boi doggy. Cute af. I want to still them and just squish them and just love them and yes. I'm coming to steal your dog. It's too cute.
ОтветитьI kept thinking "cool but what is the point, why would anyone use this?" until you showed that it can load games from SD card. Now I can imagine having every good game on 1 card, all launchable from this OS. There's the reason for existence. What an accomplishment! 😮
Ответить❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎💯💥 I still love the old original C64 OS Because this piece of software actually runs under the real C64 OS. C64 orignal OS is like a skin and The new OS is like a tailored suit overlay on it. We didn't love the clothes more than our skin which always protect us in any environment. 💥💯🤎💜💙💚💛🧡❤
ОтветитьYou have fastload and you still LOAD"$",8 ?
ОтветитьIf using an SD card for storage is OK, then using a paged ram expansion should be OK as well. The whole thing could then be in RAM and most things would be instantaneous. It would also work that way using the time-appropriate pluggable extension memory.
Ответитьlook and feel of the OS is that good ... GEOS was lightyears ahead on the same machine
ОтветитьI do love your videos ! Thank you very much ! all the best
ОтветитьGreat work! Are you going to put out an update video when the networking layer is released in v1.07?
Ответитьthis was the gadget that turbo charged Gaming.
