Pennies from Heaven is practically a Christmas song for me because of this movie.

I watched this movie basically yearly in grade school and got real tired of it. First time i saw it was in theaters and i got so upset when the raccoons attacked Buddy the Elf that we had to leave the theater.

Reading up on the Baby, It's Cold outside discourse, to me it seems like a case of judging past norms with a modern lens. The whole point is that she does truly want to stay, but it was very against social norms to do so at the time. She mostly, especially towards the end of the song, is listing out how other people would be upset at the notion, and her staying at the end is meant to be her dispelling the judgements of those other people, rather than her giving in to his demands despite her wishes. The "What's in this drink?" is a poorly aged line that refers to a common saying at the time that would be uttered after almost any alcoholic drink - the joke being that there is nothing in the drink, it's either just feelings of deviancy or the drink it self making them feel funny.

That was what the song was meant to be. Obv in modern context it sounds a lot worse, but the counter point implies it was considered okay at any time to literally admit to roofy-ing someone on a popular song.

There's nothing wrong with the Dinklage scene lol, or the shower scene either tbh. They're both just plays on Will Ferrell's character being so naive and innocent that he does not understand societal norms. Maybe teetering on edgy, but imo there's nothing wrong with them.

As a 29 year old dude who’s become kind of a Grinch during adulthood (to the point of “hating” this movie) I really appreciated these two jabronis cackling about the secret handshake and stuff during the best scenes segment. Maybe Christmas ain’t so bad.

My family throws an Elf themed party each year. We basically stop the movie at iconic scenes and reenact them i.e sugar spaghetti and snowflake making scene. Anyways good recap boys. It’s a certified classic
