i disagree on a handful of your finer points but still this is an amazing break-down of not only hannibal's character but also how it works in the context of the larger components of the show & horror genre. really good vid i enjoyed it!!

ОтветитьBest character ever
ОтветитьFunny thing about the name "Graham".
I knew a Graham. Her great grandfather had locked several of his children out in the snow, killing them.
The name means "bloody-handed," ("Gra" for "grabber" and "haeme" for hemoglobin, hemorrhage and hematoma) so it suits butchers and warriors.
She was one of the most bloody-minded people I ever knew, probably a true sociopath, but she liked me, for some reason.
Maybe Hannibal thought Will wasn't living up to his family name.
You’ve done an assignment about this show havent you…
ОтветитьOur "taste" for the character... best TV you've ever "digested"... I see what you did there
ОтветитьYou didn't understand the show
ОтветитьHe also has possibly the best drip in cinema history, those suits are absolutely gorgeous
Ответитьsince you ignored the relationship between Will and Hannibal, even though this relationship is almost the driving force behind the events of the series. The impact of their relationship not only affected Will exclusively but also had an impact on Hannibal, where it can be said that there has been some sort of change in his personality. It's strange that you overlooked this point despite its importance, and by the way, contrary to what some people think, Hannibal does indeed love Will, even if it is a twisted or distorted love. This contradicts his view of humans, as he only sees people as sheep or tools, but forming intimate feelings towards someone means that he sees them on an equal level or at least as a being with their own entity and emotions. Your neglect of something like this means that you have overlooked an important part of the character that appeared in the series :-: .
ОтветитьWatch Hannibal Rising, it explains his backstory and his sister. Wonderful movie; disturbing, but wonderful.
ОтветитьI still think that Hannibal in the series is a supernatural entity, solely due to how he is able to work as a top class socialite, craft such massive feasts for the upper class, full time job as a psychiatrist, and fully stalk and hunt people.
WHERE DOES HE HAVE ALL THE TIME?!
Hannibal is not impulsive ! Even the choice of being impulsive is consciously made by him.
ОтветитьHannibal on the show is definitely presenting as Lucifer on Paradise Lost , we know he’s the devil by previous representation but he’s shown in a new light where we can see things from his perspective or have Empathy for the Devil
Ответитьthank you ron swanson, too true
ОтветитьHannibal is both faces of the coin.
ОтветитьHannibal seems chose who to eat based off extreme feelings, at times he has the overwhelming desire to eat those he loves dearly, while we also see him hold a great distain for the rude and unsophisticated and he takes pleasure in murdering and consuming them too.
ОтветитьI think well, at least in the books Hannibal was feed his sister without the knowledge of it being her and later he connected the dots. It leaned a bit more into his cannibalism being more due to the extremely traumatic experiences of his childhood.
ОтветитьThey need a movie about Hannibal childhood that would interesting to see just how we seen Darth vadors existence
ОтветитьGreat analysis!
ОтветитьBryan Fuller never gets enough credit for his work. All of the actors are willing to come back to finish the Silence of the Lambs arc, which speaks volumes. When Fuller was fired from American Gods, Chenoweth and Anderson left out of loyalty to him (Gaiman had a hissy fit). Orlando Jones spoke, after being used and abused by Gaiman and Starz, about how lucky they were to have Fuller. A man who could write for ANY character, from any race, ethnicity, gender, etc. The first time we see Anansi is incredible, and it was Fuller who pushed for Jones to be hired for the character.
I wish they’d bring Hannibal back.
Cheer~~detailed examination of the elements or structure of something.
ОтветитьDespite all the serious deep takes on Hannibal, I can't help but remember that one post which said psychoanalyzing Hannibal is useless because he's just an edgier Bugs Bunny
Ответитьit’s interesting what your take is! i’d argue that hannibal 100% feels empathy, just selectively. mads himself has mentioned this before in an interview before. the show itself also states that they can’t define hannibal. i say this because this adds so much depth to hannibal as a character. hannibal canonically ate mischa unknowingly, but i can’t remember what they said in the show about it. now that i think about it, i have a theory hannibal wants to kill will BECAUSE he sees that they’re equal, and possibly because he can see that the back and forth between them is somewhat more destructive than death itself. as for will’s empathy, he actually only really shows empathy FOR killers, which implies that he personally can understand them, which is a big reason for his “Becoming.” will already IS isolated and lonely, and already DOES think like hannibal, he just didn’t realize it. we discover it as will does. a lot of the tension and discourse in the show and within their dynamic is will struggling with this reality. i will say that it’s difficult for me to digest pun intended this show because it triggers me for sure in a psychological/moral way. i have to sort of balance it out with something more lighthearted lol.
i could never hate hannibal lecter hes so hot
ОтветитьI believe hannibal eats his kills not cause he believes he's holier-than-thou and more out of forgiveness for what and who offended him

ОтветитьFirst watch of hannibal (will's pov): this is a psychological crime drama thriller
Second watch of hannibal (hannibal's pov): this is a romcom
I love Mads Mikkelsen and Bryan Fuller, but I really disliked his portrayal of Hannibal. It may be because I read the book Hannibal many times and Mads portrayal always felt flat and sedate in comparison to the more...let's say eccentric and maybe even flamboyant book version.
I write this not to shame anyone about their Hannibal preference (I get the Mads Mikkelsen love), but I've never seen anyone else dislike this telling of Hannibal and I wonder if anyone else thinks "yeah, I hated this." (Am I all aloooone?)
Carthage Immortalized ❤ Carthage today is Tunisia, and the ruins still exist. 🇹🇳
ОтветитьMads Mikkelsen is so adorable, how does he play psychopaths so easily when he’s a huge softy irl! And he ships hannigram! 😂❤ I know Hannibals is evil but I still love him cause of Mads ❤ also anything psychological or philosophical is fun, makes you question things
ОтветитьExcellent. Subscribed
ОтветитьBeware the Men who walk with no shadow behind them.
ОтветитьMADS MIKKELSEN AND HUGH DANCY #1 ❤
Ответитьtrash show dexter solos hannibal isnt likeable he isnt funny etc
ОтветитьLoveless, nice content
ОтветитьThe Mischa stuff in NBC Hannibal is not described in length like in the books. Hannibal actually didn’t know he was eating his sister (he was a child).
ОтветитьSir Mads Mikkelsen
ОтветитьI think the writers did a beautiful job making will seem gay without having any gay scenes in, it puts into question the intensity of relationships and the place of coital tendencies with our regard to intimacy.
ОтветитьThere is this beautiful Theory that says that the Hannibal show takes place in the World Of Darkness setting. Specivicly in Changeling: The Dreaming.
The Burgerkrieg made a good case of it.
Hannibal and Will DID get a happy ending...right along with Bedilia 🤣
ОтветитьAnswering the questions asked in the beginning of the video: no, I've never was able to understand Hannibal Lecter and his way of thinking. I've never empathised with him. If that was the point of the show they missed by a mile. I've never doubted that what he did was horribly wrong despite the lovely table arrangements and never saw Jack Crawford as an obstacle. Most of the time I was extremely pissed off that Lecter did what he wanted without anyone noticing. That was horrifying to see how a vulnerable person was manipulated into paranoia, madness and was denied medical attention for the psychopath entertainment.
As it's easy to guess I am completely sure that there is no love or empathy between main characters because Hannibal is incapable of love and compassion. It is not a matter of choice or meeting the right person as some would think, it is a physical incapability to feel certain emotions. Every time showrunners pull them into emotionally intence interactions assuming love interest for me it feels completely false. Yes, Hannibal chooses to display merciful or empathetic behavior but only when it meets his needs instead of actually feeling for someone. Imitation is not a real emotion.
Lastly, I was outraged that nobody aware who Hannibal Lecter was chose to end him once and for all. They all knew enough about what he had done, what he was capable of and how the justice system failed to make him accountable. That was the personal sacrifice I would expect from FBI and all involved: to get physically rid of danger otherwise unreachable.
Mads Mikkelsen is outstanding but this is too little to actually consider liking his character.
Hannibal has a possessive nature when it comes to the people he “loves”. He hates the idea of one of his few favorite people leaving him behind and being happier and better off for it. Because at the end of the day, he is brutally alone, and will always miss the time in his life were he was surrounded by trustworthy people who loved him unconditionally. And the loss of them turned him into a monster that not even a deeply empathetic person could trust and love unconditionally.
So he eats them, so they’ll always be with him, and conjoined to him.
He makes a great car.
ОтветитьWould a low level critique ever be complete without a hackneyed poke at TLOU2?
ОтветитьThat was a meticulous analysis, just bravo, very underrated channel, you just earned a new sub.
ОтветитьThe closing phrase is so good, I've also watch Hannibal like 4 times lol
