Best to have 'em break now, huh? Too bad ya don't have tulip poplar {Liriodendron tulipifera) up there. Makes shafts as tough as doug fir and similar weight. Rabbit hide strips make great "tracers" to see where target was hit. Yeah, center-cut shelf will fool ya re how stiff shaft is necessary for good flight. Might want to consider building out shelf (leather) . . . bow would then require more flexible shaft to get around riser.

TO:Shawn ,left a comment earlier to tell you that sounds like might have carptunnel in your wrist. I've have it in both for over twenty years now, doctor said they can remove it by surgery but can't grantee it won't come back. Either way wish you well

Sweet setup! Arrow building is definitely therapeutic. Liking the trad archery content lately.

I shoot a 40# Bodnik Quick Stick LB. I did DIY wool silencers also. When it comes to spacing for silencers there is a formula and it works!

1. Measure length of string that doesn’t touch the bow when strung
2. Multiply by 0.183
3. Install silencer at that distance on both ends of the string

Did that on mine with factory spec on the brace height and it’s dead quiet and zero hand shock. I’m in the 11-12gpp arrow weight which also helps with noise.

Cheers from the Ottawa Valley

The bowstring is hitting your wrist, need a cover gauntlet. The other wrist is because of strength stress, smooth leather is best for this. I recommend one that covers also the thumb and index finger. OucH! Your hand smoked too. Might I suggest a hot pad near the tool shead stove? One more thing to add CO2 monitor battery operated for tool shead. STS = save thy self Good hunting!

Shawn, I had this wrist issue. Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex (TFCC) is a structure located on the ulnar aspect of the wrist joint, between the ulna and the lunate and triquetrum bones. It plays a crucial role in stabilizing the wrist. It was building up protective tissue in that area.
Dr. had me wear a supported wrist brace 24/7 for 8 wks.
I also took CBD oil.
It's similar to carpal tunnel, from repetitive movements.

Brings back lots of fond memories. Back in the early 50's my dad was big into everything archery. He bagged a lot of deer and game over the years, and even went on a bow hunting safari in the Belgian Congo and French Equatorial Africa, (as they were known then), with the infamous Fred Bear of the archery hunting world.

If it’s a ganglion cyst on your wrists - the old wives tale is to hit it with a bible. The best thing that could happen is you hitting it on something. Hubby gets them - and he uses the bible … it works lol. One time before he knew about wacking it with a bible he accidentally hit it while building the shed - it was gone lol

You talk about painting your arrows white so you can see it's flight and you can see the blood path arrows were painted white back in the day using dried up bone for the exact same reason the Indian Savages with paint themselves White that's a smart lesson for people to understand from you thanks for the Learning lesson

I too made an historical Comanche bow, and accurate sized arrows. I artifact hunt so I put points I’ve dug on the arrows. It’s got a 35 lb pull kill range of 60’. I made it from a maple stave with rawhide backing.

Use organic hexane free castor oil packs on your wrist bumps. It will alleviate the inflammation and tenderness. I use on my knees and back at night. It really helps!

For your bone spurs: Calm ( calcium and magnesium) 1-2 teaspoon, boswellia 2 cap am & pm, yucca 500mg 2 Am & Pm, boron as directed. Castor oil Am &Pm . Try this combination. The spur forms when we have a deficit in calcium/ magnesium so our body takes it from the bone at a weak area to keep the levels in the blood at homeostasis. Dr. Robbi
