I mostly swung between vanilla/plus and overpoch. Then to the isle and pubg. The offline raiding for the base building servers just didint jive with having a job.

From 2022-2023ish there was a (non RP) server called StalkerZ and it was like nothing else I've ever played on DayZ....truly a unique experience even amongst the heavily modded DayZ server community. Right up until Klean bought the server and shut it down 🥲😭

damn, i really learned something here. i never knew what really spawned out of day z, and how it really came to be, i am just a guy who played several thousand hours in the standalone, just somewhat knowing that it was an arma mod once, and thats that. funny.

If your interested in the concept of ideas as evolving species. Then i would recommend the book " On the Origin of Tepees: The Evolution of Ideas " By Jonnie Hughes. Its a fun read and great storytelling to explain text book stuff.

I love how accurate that opening analogy is, with regards to the Battlefront 2 2017 modding community.

We’re seeing new modpacks pop up all over the place, and each one is pretty radically different from the other.

Battlefront Plus
Battlefront 2022
Battlefront Expanded
Battlefront 3 Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War, etc

And with the soon to be introduced Kyber V2 private servers, the community is likely going to speciate the same way the DayZ mod players and community did,

with some players wanting to play on servers with the maximum number of heroes, canonical and/or non,

Others wanting to play on servers that only stay relatively true to what was likely going to be added to the official game, based on former developer comments and leaks,

And other players wanting servers that solely focus on better infantry gameplay, with new weapons, gameplay features, abilities, reinforcement units and infantry classes, even if it means at the cost new hero characters or being logical to have been added to the official game.

Let’s just hope that EA doesn’t make the same mistake as Bohemia, and hire the guys behind Kyber and these Modpacks, to make an official Battlefront 3, that would upset a majority of the other modded community players who see their version of modded Battlefront 2 as the “Real way” to play BF2

I reckon you'd make a very good analysis of the emergent Soulslike genre in a similar manner to this essay, especially since those games seem to stick around unlike previous genres. The original Dark Souls still has an active playerbase and "competes" for attention with its successors.

I can imagine you receive a lot of appraisal for your work daily, Soviet. Still, I would like to confirm to you that even though this essay series for day Z was one of your first if not the first, the quality is at the very top in many aspects, humor, explanation of the subject using the right terms correctly. It is no wonder that you worked with QA, at least based on your results.

I wish you're able to teach someone, an editor, or something your qualities so we can see more of your video, which is great, but scarce. (Perhaps that's why is great, because it is well built and delivered in the correct period).

Also, I would like to add that after seeing many movies and trailers using Guns'n Roses's famous song as a hype "mechanic" was never well used such as the manner that you used.

So they made a plain base game with the intention of having the modders fix everything else for free.. Wow... just wow... Gee, wonder why it wasn't well received

I honestly think they took the best path which is lead down the road of modding. Community Modding is really the source of the evolution that you’re speaking of. There are so many mods out there now for Standalone, so far I think the only one really missing is AI. They are there, but they aren’t very good.
