kinda disagree about the best weapon. sure, gorgon head is the strongest, but it fails two criteria before it gets the title of "the best"
1: it's 1 time use
2: it prevents any sort of mob drops from any killed entity
to effectively utilise it, you need to kill hundreds of gorgons to keep it up. you cannot mend the head.
this is also a criteria failed by myrmex swarms. Here i am giving a personal ranking no one asked for

Honorary mention: Dragonsteel weapons, all of them. They're stronger than any legendary weapon, these earn the title of the best for ice and fire in general, but they aren't considered legendary. Also dragon bone bow, love that
1: Hydra heart
It's a weird pick, but the insane amount of survivability it offers is invaluable. It's also not as rare as some other drops
2: Phantasmal blade
When i play ice and fire, this is my top pick for priority. Ghosts are pathetically weak, and it takes robbing like 3 graveyards out of their soil, constructing a farm, and i've got a great source of ingots for an amazing weapon. It by no means has the highest damage output, but firing the ranged attack costs no durability, has insane range, and goes through walls. That's THE weapon i use early game for killing any kind of threat, be it leviathan, dragon, or others
3: Eye of cyclops
Extremely easy to get, quite indurable, but mendable and you can put protection on it. Put it in the offhand and it'll function like a shield. Difference is, you can use it at the same time as you attack
4: Lightning sword
It's good damage, and lightning is mad powerful too. Can even ignite creepers, given you don't kill them
5: Trident of the deep
I like tridents.
6: The wither scepter
Insanely powerful ranged attack from a not so hard to kill mob
7: and 8: The other elemental swords
Both have downsides, as you sometimes do not want either of their effects on whatever you're hitting. Ice sword also stops having functionality the instant you give it fire aspect, and its kinda difficult to avoid that if you're using an enchantment table. And regardless, there are better picks
9: Talon sword
It's decent functionality if you happen to get lucky, but otherwise is outclassed by a regular bone sword, which is miles easier to get, and then just as easier to make into one of the elemental swords. By no means a bad weapon though
10, 11, 12: Worm gloves
Pulling an enemy to you is neat, but you need (and most likely will already have) other weapons to actually deal damage
13: Siren flute
From here are weapons i don't use much. Although this one is quite good, i just don't find myself using it. It's quite boring
14: Stymphalean dagger
One of the earliest weapons you can get. Completely and fully functionally outclassed by bone swords and especially phantasmal sword
15-22: All troll maces
Trolls are strong, and their weapons always drop at low durability, what's worse is that all of them kinda suck. Insanely slow swing speed will ensure you'll only end up using it on peons, or not use it at all because you'd have better functionality weapons by then. What's great damage when it's delivery speed sucks, and so does the dps
23: Amphitere's drop weapon forgot name lol lmao
It's just 5 damage. The other effect it has is cool, but often times it just means you get to hit your enemies less
24: Pixie wand
It's a lot, a lot worse than a bow, and it's ammo is ludicrously expensive, this weapon is nearly unusable and it's ammo is craftable into ambrosia, something a lot more worth using. Unlike next candidates though, it's still usable
25: Stymphalean bird feather pack
The other 7 feathers fired out go to complete waste. Is horrible to use, takes up lots of inventory space, outclassed by a plain bow, has no additional useful effects, is a waste of time to farm for and to make
25: Hippocampus's slapper.
Why? Most strong mobs have fall damage resistance. It's weaker than a wooden sword for those that don't have it
26: Myrmex swarm
It's very, very, very impractical, one time use, and for stronger mobs it doesn't do jack o lantern. Absolutely not worth crafting, you better spend those eggs to make a myrmex nest of your own and have a village. Even then, buying eggs rather than stealing them is highly resource consuming and the payout just, isn't worth
27: Gorgon head
The weapon you placed as the best, i place as the worst. It's strong, perhaps i should've moved it to spot 13, but the fact that whatever you kill completely lacks drops is what ruins the weapon for me. If you don't want to fight a mob, most of the time you can go around it. There's no, absolutely not a single mob that's both strong enough that you want to kill it, not weak enough that it's a waste, and that simoultaneously doesn't have a good drop that's more worth getting than wasting a head. And even then, just ignore the mob. There's the cosmetic of acquiring silk touch statues, but that's not a very weapon thing is it. Unless there's a type of boss in any mod that drops nothing but defends a good treasure chest, then this weapon is a maybe, but i'd rather fight the actual boss fair and square

Personally I think strongest weapon is phasmantal blade because of high damage and very fast attack speed. Spinning blades are preaty weak but with sharpness it does 2nd highest dps next to dragon steel.
Also stymphalian bird dagger very good for how easy to get it is.
