I tell this to my brother who thinks it’s child abuse if you don’t feed a kid right when they say “I’m hungry “. They’re not hungry most of the time, just bored. Now my 4 yr old niece is on her way to being 200 lbs by 18 just like my other 2 nieces. One went on her own diet and lost a ton of weight. The middle one is probably 240 lbs at the age of 15. It’s sad because she used to be so outgoing and confident. Now she’s very quiet and tries to hide from people because she’s so big. I knew this would happen when she was drinking huge Dunkin Donuts drinks when she was like 8 years old!!! I tasted it one time and it was nothing but SUGAR!! Ughh I feel so sorry for some kids, their parents never gave them a chance. My youngest niece will go to my parents house and my dad will make a nice vegetable soup. Very healthy and will never make you gain weight, her mom will say “I ordered pizza, you can’t eat soup everyday!” I just feel like choking her so bad! Why in the world would you turn down healthy food for pizza?! Idk why some Americans think soup is for sick people and the winter. I’ll eat soup everyday if I could, it’s delicious and so many different types to make! So easy to make too and not expensive at all. Noo.. let’s just give her chicken nuggets and pizza then get sad when she gets bullied in school eventually.

That is a great way to create an eating disorder. Being hungry is your body's way of telling you that it needs sustenance.
What you're saying to your viewers is basically to ignore that feeling of hunger.
What you should be telling them is to ask themselves if they are actually hungry or if they're understimulated.

I mean, sure… if you’re not hypoglycemic, diabetic, or have a specific diet that requires you to be more prompt.

Nothing is ever an emergency— till it is, of course. You saying this is a red flag and this type of advice assumes a person won’t start pouring sweat and pass out.

We are taught we have 5 senses— touch, sight, hearing, taste, and smell… but the list is closer to 20+— including such things as balance, or hunger. Sure, feeling hungry may not be an emergency but we developed senses that aided in our survival. To you, not being an emergency should not mean it’s any less serious. You wouldn’t want to ruin your metabolism by slipping into starvation mode.

After being asked, a teacher told us, “Why not have a snack before bed; if not, your body could go into starvation mode because it doesn’t know if it’ll eat again.” Was she advocating a four-course meal right before bed? No, that’s ridiculous, but a light snack isn’t going to hurt— could even save your life.

I've struggled with anorexia, binge eating, and bulimia. It's a vicious and unhealthy cycle that I ended up in the hospital because of.
It all started with me ignoring that feeling of hunger so I could lose some weight. I would ignore it for days until I got to the point where I couldn't function properly. Then, I would try to eat just enough that I could get rid of the pit in my stomach. But I wouldn't stop. So, I would force myself to vomit everything I'd eaten. And go back to ignoring the pain in my stomach.
