Texas Weather: Tornado Watch into Saturday Morning with Severe Storms Possible

A tornado watch is in effect through 4 AM Saturday for western North Texas, Texoma, and Northwest Texas. Our first severe storm of the night ignited near Bowie and may be producing golf ball-sized hail near Nocona before racing into southern Oklahoma. More storms will develop after midnight near a cold front in Northwest Texas, extending south into the Big Country. The most intense storms may generate very large hail, localized damaging wind gusts, and potentially a tornado. The overall tornado threat overnight is low but not zero, with hail, strong winds, and frequent lightning being the most likely hazards. Individual storms will move northeast around 40 MPH. In the pre-dawn hours Saturday, storms will likely move east into North Texas and approach Interstate 35 around sunrise; however, they will be in a weakened state.

Scattered to numerous storms are expected to develop from mid-afternoon Saturday through Saturday night, affecting the Concho Valley and Hill Country north into the Big Country, Northwest Texas, Texoma, and North Texas. Multiple rounds of storms are possible, and each round may include severe storms. The most intense storms tomorrow may produce very large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes. The tornado threat may be slightly higher than today, but we will need to assess how the overall environment develops after tonight's round of storms.
