ОтветитьWhen cars were remotely related to their factory counterparts
Ответитьremotely related in the 60s and 70s they were directly related
ОтветитьMet Jim Vandiver along with David Pearson at metrolina car show several years ago . Talked to them over 20 minutes. I asked them both what they thought of racing these days and their reply was it ain't worth a shit! Some pretty cool old dudes!
ОтветитьLast comment " fined 50K" laughed. That old man was probably chuckling. Those old timers were real good at bending the rules. Read a story where they hid lead shot in the exhaust to pass tech weight regulations, and when they hit the track, they would hit a hidden switch to dump it when they were rolling onto the track, around the bottom portion. Supposedly they only weighed one time to document race weight. After that it was all legal. They used to say " if you wasn't cheating, you wasn't trying." LOL.
ОтветитьWhat is the story on the 2 Torinos that were briefly mentioned in this video? The #96 and #99 cars. Is there a video about them? It sounds like Ray owns at least one of them.
ОтветитьI was born in 74. Until watching this video, I thought I was getting old. If people STILL own cars from 1974 that run and start well then I'll be damn... I'm going to the studio tomorrow to work on my mixtape with 2chainz!!
ОтветитьI watched the movie Greased Lightning the other day and I think I saw this car in it. I'm pretty sure I remember because of the Triple Elkhorn Mining Co. sponsorship.
ОтветитьGiggles at lil adamwayneones stupid comment below ! not sure where your facts derive from cupcake....the hemi was banned totally in 1965 simply because ford and bowtie teams refused to accept the ass beating sunday after sunday !!! lil ole bill france soon realized he was about to be broke and homeless,,, so he brought back mopar to nascar in 1966.. ! after another series of hemi dominance (winged warriors)..hence the restrictor plates ! i actually sat in this, mr vandivers car right where you see it... in marvin hughes garage back in the mid 90s...marvin also had a silver 1966 hemi cuda and the white and gold fury in the video has been in several articles as well. mr hughes rebuilt my fathers 1967 440 gtx and during the rebuild ,,it was featured as the poster car in several magazines..adamwaynenone you can cry bullshit or whatever ! way to take a great memory and video and try to play C.N.N,,, Mr vandivers hemi REMAINS untouched as it was in 1974...go play with your matching numbers chevy and ford matchbox cars ...and leave reality alone
ОтветитьWhat an absolute gorgeous paintscheme.
ОтветитьRay didnt figure that air trick out, Caroll Shelby did.
ОтветитьAt a time when the common man as they say could build and race not like the ones to day were its 50-100 K just to start but times change and all ways will - in to days world of racing the engine is pre-build on a computer and tested before the first CNC machine starts cutting in many cases and the pit crew not only changes the tires as they say but looks at data from many points of the car and its performance like a jet fighter in a war
thanks for posting as cars like this are pure Gold from history in racing and like a fine tune harp when running
The pure excitement I felt when I first saw a sponsor from my hometown on a vintage NASCAR race car!!
ОтветитьThe good ol' days when race cars still had VIN numbers
ОтветитьWhen they started fining drivers/ owners 50k for finding a way to make their cars go faster it was the beginning of the end of NASCAR for this former fan.
ОтветитьGod I’d love to have that Beautiful car
ОтветитьLove all the history behind the race car drivers and love the cars. Awesome Car
ОтветитьAlways got my dodge hat on I like this guy.
ОтветитьReal nascar
ОтветитьI had a 1973 Dodge Charger in pristine condition... in Baby Blue.
ОтветитьPretty Charger! My dad had a red Charger 66' 383 & a 69' Plymouth 440 cuda'. Miss him everyday.
ОтветитьI just saw this car in the movie Greased Lightning.
ОтветитьLove those old racecars and muscle cars, don't matter to me which ones Chevrolet, Dodge, Pontiac, Ford or whatever
ОтветитьStarted rite up because it's a mopar ¬ chevy junk
ОтветитьMet Ray at thompson! What a wonderful guy to talk to.
ОтветитьI was 14 in 1974 and glued to the TV on Sunday afternoons, or listing to the old MRN. Grew up by Rockingham motor speedway, always went to the drags and circle track. My dad was a gear head, I miss them days and these cars, it's really sad to witness the collapse of stock car racing. ☹️🤬
ОтветитьSo it was untouched but the engine was rebuilt?
ОтветитьJim was my great uncle, his brother Tommy Vandiver was my grandfather. A lot of stories between these two. This brings back some memories!
ОтветитьThere's nothing more metal than an old Mopar roaring to life...💪🇺🇲🤘🤘
ОтветитьKenny ur a great racecar
ОтветитьOMG It has drum brakes!
ОтветитьA little less than 2 years ago, 1978 rookie of the year, Ronnie Thomas, turned me on to an old Cup car from the 80s. Complete car had been sitting in the man's garage since 1985.
