love thiss take! but if dumbledore knew harry had to die (before goblet of fire) then what was he training him for in the first 2 movies? and how did he think harry would defeat voldy knowing fully well that he himself is a horcrux?

I don’t think Dumbledore sees Harry which he is the Cloaks master but sees Ron and guesses that Harry is also there

Few things that proves all the story:
1. When Harry forgot the cloak on the tower in the 1 book someone sent it back to him with the message: "just in case". We all know it was Dumbledore. It profs that he was very closely following Harry. Almost step by step.

2. In the 5th book when Harry returned from The Ministry of Magic and talked with Dumbledore he told him many things and one of them was that he was very closely watching him and that Harry didn't even know how close it was. Also during the same conversation Dumbledore told that he was observing from the distance when Harry was fighting the dementors.

I guess he was following him all the time also to ensure he will be able to help just in case Harry need it.

3. In the 3rd book he orchestrated the rescue of the hipogryf during the time travel.

4. In the second book when Harry and Ron went to Hagrid house and hide under the invisibility cloak he knew that they are hiding. Therefore he could somehow recognize when Harry uses it or he followed him before. He also gave Harry hint that everyone will receive help in Hogwart if one will ask for it. Then Harry in the chamber of secret ask for help and got the Godric sword...

I believe I could find even more similar examples...

Never thought about it before, but Arthur took a bribe in exchange for using his political office to make an investigation go away. That's like highly unethical. Come to think of it, Arthur is a bit of a criminal.

Little correction, the elder wand does care if the wizard is overpowered, its not like disarmed is disarmed, not every wand shifts its aligence everytime someone disarms their wizard, but if a wizard gives up the wand, then the wand has to choose a new master, Dumbledore, in his final moments never intended to fight back, he essentially gave up on being a wizard anymore, he abandoned the wand as soon as he was disarmed by Draco, and hence the Elder want choose a new master. So Snape could have totally passed on the ownership of the Elder wand to Harry, if he choose to abandon the wand and resign from being a wizard.
So I think Dumbledore was totally thrilled that it was Draco who essentially defeated him, by forcing him to never do magic again, instead of Snape, because Voldemort's arrogance would never allow him to take a bug like Draco as a noteworthy character in his story, if that wouldn't have happened, I am sure Dumbledore would have gone on a rampage and defeat every deatheater before dying at the hands of Snape, he would never allow someone like Grayback to rome through the School and potentially bite the kids, or someone else getting permantly hurt like Bill. But Draco through sheer chance, forced Dumbledore to never use magic again.

I think that Voldemort made a crucial mistake: his REAL enemy isn't Harry (while he is convinced about it tho) but is actually Dumbledore. And he never understood Dumbledore while the old man figured Tom out since long time ago. He just knew he couldn't do it because of the prophecy. So Dumbledore created an extreme misdirection, making him thinking Harry is the real enemy, not himself. But if everything have been planned, Dumbledore really played 4dimensional chess while Tom was playing checkers

@caseyhamm4292 - 12.10.2024 05:40

i think an important part of this all is that the prophecy isn’t actually real. it never states that’s what must happen only what might. and it does happen because of voldemort’s folly and harry’s belief that his acceptance of death is the only thing that can save the wizarding world. the hallows vs horcruxes debate is front and center for the last installment but what lies under the surface is the actual conflict of the whole series in disguise: prophecy vs plan

I disagree with Ron's mom not remembering the train statin. I went to college out of state (Ohio), as did my wife of 20 years. We decided to recreate some old memories while visiting our old campus. We started at the neighborhood of our tiny furst apartment (Euclid Ave) and decided to take the train back to the campus and we couldnt remember the numbers/details of how to get there. We must have taken that train route EVERY DAY for FOUR YEARS during college and the details of train station numbers, station names, color-coded routes, etc....was a complete WASH. Decades later, the human mind forgets minutaie. On campus, we forgot the names of buildings, like the library and chemistry lab, when we definitely spend hours and hours at these places.

I think you overestimate Ron's moms memory, being a working mom of 200 kids with a full life.

Seems like by choosing the weasleys he also set him up with ginny. Considering she's a red head just like his mother. Otherwise he could have ended up with someone that could have a negative influence on him.

I think it's curious that the art of war doesn't mention knowing your enemy but not yourself. I think it implies that you will suffer defeat as well as success just like the inverse

How did Dumbledore know Harry had to sacrifice himself in goblet of fire when he had the triumph in his eyes? Did he know Harry was a Horcrux even then when he hadnt heared Slughorns memory about Voldemorts 7way split soul? I thought he only suspected this in order of the phoenix when Harry whitnesses Nagini attacking Arthur in the ministry? Or is Voldemort having Lilys blood in him usefully in any other situation?

Why did the Weasleys need to win the lottery to go to Egypt? I know they are poor in universe, but how is it expensive to travel as a Wizard in this universe? Molly and Arthur can apparate and thus take along others by sidelong apparation....so that means no cost to actually get to Egypt. We know that food cant be conjured by magic, but again...one of the Weasley parents could just apparate to the Burrow and grab food and go back to Egypt. Well then, the expense must be lodging right?...except no, this problem is also defeated by the fact that they could just apparate back to the Burrow to sleep. So I remain confused as to how, if they buy no souvenirs or anything, the Weasleys couldnt afford to go to Egypt without the lottery
