We compare NOAA’s Operational Forecast System (OFS) model forecasts with NOAA’s tidal current predictions, primarily showing a way to do this study on your own for a region of interest.

For this we used LuckGrib to download the model data in grib format and after looking at it there, we exported the grib file and loaded into qtVlm that lets us look at the forecast on a real chart (ENC) with an overlay of the official NOAA current stations. We can see that the model forecasts offer a good way to see the current flow distribution that is difficult to picture based on the station predictions alone since they are presented as strictly reversing currents.
