I use mono for spinning rods and topwater baitcasters and flouro and braid for the rest

A lot of it is personal preference. I like to use mono when salmon fishing in the Great Lakes because it’s more forgiving when salmon fight but I know lots of people who use braid.

It’s funny. I tried to explain this to somebody that fishes four times a year. You’ll never notice the difference as a beginner until you get bit a lot or drug a over a ton of cover. It just come down to passion and being on the water every chance you get.

I use Sufix siege mono 10lbs and 14lbs. It takes a lot of force to break the line on snags. I broke a EWG heavy 4/0 hook

As an avid fresh and saltwater fisherman for over 40 years the only line I use ( for everything ) is Izorline xxx copolymer! Excellent knot strength, limp, very low memory, low stretch, very durable, neutrally buoyant and super strong! This line has been under the radar for decades! Plus, it’s not at all expensive! 🎣

I really like my 15lb braid with about a 18" flouro 10 lb leader. More fussy than mono but worth it for strength, casting distance, no stretch and i like the sensitivity. Maybe thats more the rod tho idk.
