Don't get the impression that Lockland Ohio is out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by cornfields. Lockland is actually surrounded by other old established suburbs, and is basically landlocked in terms of expansion.

Lockland is adjacent to Evendale Ohio, which is the site of the General Electric jet engine plant. G.E. Evendale was originally the Wright Aviation engine plant which, during WWII built engines for our bombers, transports, and fighter planes.

The Village of Lockland is furthermore divided in half by Interstate I-75, which actually, at this point, was built in the bed of the old Miami-Erie Canal which was built in 1828 and served until 1929. It was home to a series of locks which lowered the canal boats from the level of the large plateau in central Ohio down to the City of Cincinnati Ohio. Interstate I-75 pretty much follows the path of this old canal as it passes through Cincinnati.

Cincinnati's failed subway system also lies in the canal bed as it curved off to the east and passed through the city. This path through downtown Cincinnati is today Central Parkway.
