Dot tried to inspect my rig at the black canon rest area , I told them kick rocks I’m on my federal mandatory Rest period . They started an inspection anyway and demanded my book , “ sorry I’m off duty and cannot do ANY ON DUTY DRIVER RELATED activity’s by federal law …. I’ll be able to be on duty in 10.5 hours get with me then .

DOT been using rest areas for at least 40 years,especially from Iowa to the east coast.

What gps app are you using? I like the location of the mph.

If it all was truly about safety and not money, then they would be checking ever vehicle that travels the road.

I inherited a house and property in Clinton Michigan from my grandmother and I have no desire to ever live in Michigan. The property is rented out through a management company. I should just sell the property but I keep it anyways just to options.

I won't live in Michigan due to the weather, I like driving all my vehicles year round and I can't stand wearing heavy bulky clothing.

I was in a rest area and the DOT had pulled in while I was on my sleep period. They knocked on my door and demanded my paperwork. I ignored them as when you are sleeping, you are NOT on duty. After about 5 mins, I opened the sleeper door and told them to knock the shit off as i had 7 hours left of my sleep period and they just made me reset it. I called my company to let them know and they sent a qualcomm message to all drivers about what was goin on and to let them know of any other states doing the same thing.
I have also been pulled in and told to NOT update my logbook at scales, I ignore them as well as the officers CANNOT override the rules for their own gain. I also ran a loose leaf logbook, so I can take out the days not required so the officers cannot find any possible violations.

Living on the west side of Michigan has its perks. Warmer winters (with more snow) and cooler summers with less severe thunderstorms.

I know a lot of the older divers were taught strapping like you did but it is dangerous. If some idiot bumps your trailer they will cut the straps and you now have an unsecured load. If it falls to the road dot will write several tickets. I try to teach safety, in strapping never have exposed straps, though it's hard in a double drop.

DOT in rest areas in Pennsylvania has been for as long as I can remember. If they don't find something wrong, they make something up.

Yep playing catchup watching these. The U.P. of Michigan is beautiful year round. We love are 4 wheeler and snowmobile trails. I dont like the side by side they are too much like cars and our trails can break them.

DOT should not be allowed to check trucks in rest areas either get them on the rd or at the chicken coop and surprised to see you don't cross your tie down chains

In alabama you can put a license plate on side by sides and run them everywhere. Only restrictions are on 4wheelers. Can’t run them on the road. But side by sides you can if you lic them. Plus there is a ton of trails and hunting roads you can run

Try living in the state of regulations and taxes California. No more old trucks unless you have a historic license plate and you can only drive 1000 miles a year. Now my 36 Chevy 5 window coupe gasser and my original not restored 1926 Oldsmobile.
