I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of Oblivion and haven't played this game. But with that said, I play other Bethesda games and this doesn't look like a collective effort of a team with one vision, but a hodgepodge of mods from different authors, downloaded and installed by a person with no taste. But something else caught my attention. People often blame the toucans, and rightly so... But they also forget about the generational issue. Simply put, the old creators became lazy, out of touch, or retired, not having time or being able to raise a new generation of creators. In essence, the current creators are not the disciples and spiritual successors of the previous ones, but rather heirs who have inherited what they do not understand. For them, the old media are as alien as Chinese characters, so they cannot even imitate them.

And the same thing reigns in more serious spheres of life, so there are few or no innovations, or they are superficial. Politics and even science are populated by larpers who repeat the moves of their ancestors like cargo cultists. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with learning from your predecessors, but following their example must be done with awareness and understanding, otherwise it is just clumsy repetition. This one-sided approach leads not only to pale imitations, but also to linear thinking. This means not only that problems will be solved in the same way, but new ones will also arise.

If this is too abstract for you - Bethesda refuses to update/change the game engine, hoping to save money or something. It seems logical, but in reality, it does more harm than good, and to the developers themselves. With an old and inefficient system, they not only create problems for players and modders, but also for themselves, so they cannot effectively and quickly create games. This is partly why Starfield takes them so long, Bethesda cannot run effectively their own engine. Film and series production is also full of archaism, so even despite the leap in technology since the fifties, there are still many vestiges from those times. I mean, it took people a year to make a season of television back then, and it takes them a year now. More, in some cases. Even though House of the Dragons is mostly two people talking in dark hallways, there's a two-year gap between seasons. And why? Because of a couple of scenes with cheap CGI? If they take so much time - why can't they just plan them out and do them in advance? What are storyboards and other stuff for?

I don't even want to talk about politics and culture. But still - the West unironically believes that it can destroy the biological difference between men and women in a couple of decades of dull propaganda and produce more talented women in twenty years than in thousands years of human history. And it's not that these goals are unrealistic and ultimately useless, but that there wasn't a single soul among those involved to point out this nonsense. All because of being surrounded by sycophants. Don't get me wrong - DEI, merchants and others are still to blame. But people hardly talk about those who allow and enable them. This is a dark path, because the accomplices can always blame the merchants and say "Oh, it's not my fault! They hypnotized me and turned me into a golem! I did not voluntarily assist them, I did not receive money or pleasure from this, believe me!"

But that's a lie - many of them did it voluntarily, out of hedonism, so the merchants almost always have dirt on them. All these weird Masonic sex rituals are not only for initiation, but also for blackmailing those who have fallen out of favor.

As an Artist & professional Graphic Designer with a 20-year career…yes, that means I was graduating college when the original came out…and I never played it. I saw all Elder Scrolls as “too nerdy”, for me, at the time. I still played RPGs of sorts, even Magic: the Gatehering at times. Lol!
It’s all taste. That’s it. I still like the new one better. That’s just my opinion, from an artist that loves Surrealism. Playing the shit out of the Remastered & loving it. I could can even get into these types of games partly due to the graphics & art styles. That’s just me. You all like the stuff from your childhood better. I get it.

But, that doesn’t mean the new one is on this level of being incredibly worse.
I think a LOT who are criticizing it THIS hard are just in their feelings to some degree. I have my own things in like that, too. So, I’m not putting marine down. Just tying to say…some people need to realize things are completely subjective.

People that are claiming that oblivion had any kind of "art style" will also say that fallout 3 looks good(it looks terrible) are just tourists that did not play the game when it came out. We never played this game for the visuals, we olayed for the freedom and quests. If you wanted pretty looking games you had final fantasy, devil may cry, bayonetta, god of war... but oblivion? Oblivion looked like ass.
