He was never a good boxer to begin with. I don't even think he was an amateur boxer or at least what he says (and others) accomplished there. I've been a boxer, so I can see his skill level and how there had been a lack of talent there primarily because of lack of experience. Essentially, his ego got the worse of him. He wanted to legitimize his lack of talent by bolding sparring with great fighters, real world champions. I believe he said he sparred with Tommy Hearns and for days he lost his motor skills where he couldn't even dial a phone number after a devastating Hearns left hook.

His Dad or stepdad was violent and abusive he learned to box to just adapt to pain as a teenager then because he was nice looking Hollywood wanted to treat him like a pretty boy but he was a tough guy good interview of him online called The Darkside if Fame though I think the host is Piers Morgan who irritates me and stalks and spies on celebrities himself tabloid trash journalist but anyway. Rumble Fish is great too imo and Barfly another good performance by Rourke he suited Marv in Sin City also because that character is supposed to look beat up and rough too.

I’ve never heard MR call Hollywood soft. Something like The Academy Awards is a whole different story. But being famous at work in Hollywood is very fleeting for most people that are lucky enough to make it into the game. At this point, we all know it’s a brutal business to be in in many horrible ways.
And the fact Mickey Rourke has been around so long considering all he’s been through, doesn’t make him crazy. It takes brains, skills, talent, strength, courage, confidence, tenacity, adaptability, etc. to last that long in Hollywood. MR took on very different roles later in life because Hollywood usually only casts the pretty boys for the types of roles MR was doing earlier in his career. I’d never call him crazy. Outspoken occasionally and different from the BS Hollywood society typical robot type…absolutely. Thank God for him.

Then came Carry Otis... they had a big public breakup involving police and guns and restraing orders and shir and aftwr that, he basically was like im have my face destroyed in the ring, then had to beg to get noticed again until stallone put him in get Carter in 09. Mickey deserved that Oscar for The Wrestler, he and Michael Keaton were both robbed of their moments. I personally never liked Sean Penn anyway, people like to forget how he'd bounce his girlfriends heads against the wall.

Mickey Rourke is incredibly talented actor. Even in Iron Men he was awesome! He aged that is what happened. Don't call aging crazy that just shows ignorance 😧
