The Murder of 16 Year Old Sylvia Likens

Poor girl was brutally tortured for 3 months and no one to save her. No one even helped 😢

This poor girl did not deserve this she did nothing wrong these people are sick and deserve to stay in prison but they were freed but Sylvia wasn't.

The fact an entire neighbourhood was responsible reminds me of a m*rder that took place just one street from where I live.

Family man with 2 kids, and his kids bikes were stolen.
Couple days later, all the kids from the street were out playing in the sun, and some of the kids from that street were actually playing on the stolen bikes.
When he went over to ask them where they got the bikes from, the dads of those kids went nuclear and attacked him with bats... to the braying crowd of kids and other parents encouraging the violence, and even allowing a couple of the kids to participate in the attack.
All the guy's family could do is watch in horror as it unfolded.

The entire adult population of the street was arrested and charged, entire families were broken up with all the kids placed into care and the parents all jailed.
The youngest jail sentence was a 14 year old.
For about a year, that whole street was completely uninhabited.

A family stole bikes from their neighbours, and an entire street then m*rdered a man in front of his wife and kids over said bicycles.

This was just 7 years ago in 2018.

Gertrude was sentenced to go Ind Woman’s prison in Indpls (old one)
Gertrude got religion while in prison next thing you know Gertrude was released because she had become an Angel
That is a true statement I knew someone that was in prison at this time frame

Gertrude needed to stay in jail until she died

Thanks for doing this episode. She deserves to be remembered and I can’t imagine what hell she went through. I don’t know how her parents could have left her and her sister with this monster. I also can’t imagine how anyone could do this to another human being (as well as what the other children did to harm Sylvia).

i dont understand something...if Sylvia had an older sister who lived near WHY dint her parents send her and Jenny to live with her instead and just send her the $20 a week instead of a stranger??

I live about 10 minutes from where the house stood. I drove past there many times before the house was torn down and thought about Sylvia a lot over the years. I was glad to see when that house that those awful things happened to her was gone for good. Thank you for the video.

Delved a bit into the case its aboherant that gertrude and many of the perpertraiters got of extremely lightly short prison terms or rehibilation for the young acumplaces .Gertrude eventually died from lung cancer smoked a lot and had a v harsh life abused ,but disgusting the things they did .Be warned re the phorensics photos of the case ,justice system at the time ...woefull in my opinion!!

I was a paramedic for over 25 years and in that time I saw some very disturbing instances of child abuse most often inflicted by their own family. Nothing as horrible as this but any abuse of a child is bad

One of the teenagers who tortured her was a teacher but was fired, because some of the students didn't feel safe around her, justice was served for Sylvia but there's other justice in this world besides the law
