2Gd more humble in these kind of interviews, perhaps his commentator style is also a kind of "persona" he puts on. One thing though Thorin you often just stick to your questions, regardless of the opinion of your interviewee, you should try to listen more to what they're saying and adjust on the fly.

No its not. If you would play GO as much as video games you would think otherwise.

I think Thorins interview style is perfect. 2GD is very opinionated and will often make inflammatory statements in the presence of people who are actively disagreeing with him to generate hilarity.

I'm a League guy but I honestly agree with 2GD here. the infrastructure Valve put up for TI is really great, what's greater is they make esports healthy with what they do, long term. Riot =/= esports

It's not really bigger when it comes to the competitive scene, the difference is more about the whole playerbase and it makes sense. LoL is more accessible and they did it on purpose. It IS casual DotA. I say that it isn't much bigger when it's about the competitive side because if you look at the numbers Ti3 almost broke the record of concurrent viewers that LoL holds and how many players are there for LoL? A ton more. There's a MUCH higher percentage of people who care about esports in DotA.

Ответить
@Sylian-
@Sylian- - 25.09.2013 03:23

It does require a lot less. A big difference is how in LoL you have a bunch of puny spells with low cd, cost, damage and almost no disable. As a result you don't get punished as much and you don't have to think as much about it. Everything deals more damage and you lose more by dying in Dota. If you look at the pro-scene, it isn't very versatile in LoL. Heroes in DotA aren't just set to one role and they could go pretty much anywhere depending on your strategy. It is much deeper and it shows.

Ответить
@Sylian-
@Sylian- - 25.09.2013 03:31

Try to explain how TPs are a jail free card. First you forget what free means as you actually have to buy it and it takes one of your slots so you do sacrifice by having it and it can very easily be interrupted. Buybacks are very understandable as the map of DotA is much bigger and you lose a ton more by dying. You lose a lot of gold, you take longer to respawn and the whole game is more aggressive and if anything buyback adds depths to it. You are punished a lot more in DotA so you're wrong.

Ответить
@Sylian-
@Sylian- - 25.09.2013 03:38

I hope you're not trying to say that it's easier to use your spells in DotA considering how your spells in LoL are low damage/low cd/low cost/low risk and the game helps you a lot to land these. In DotA you have to think a lot more and you come up with much more strategies as for LoL it isn't quite versatile. LoL has actual useless gimmicks such as your rune/mastery system. DotA has none of these. Of course the drafting is also a lot more complex in DotA. So many things to name but char limit.

Theres a setback for dying in LoL? I couldnt tell. And what Sylian said but also flash is a pretty good actual get out of jail free card. Also "facetanking" is way easier in LoL considering how there are runes that give you defense and health and MS. I've played both for a long time so trust me DotA has a way higher skill cap.

Ответить
@SimpleReally
@SimpleReally - 25.09.2013 14:49

I somewhat find it hard to believe you are an experienced player if you think runes would allow a squishy to tank anything. Anyway,map presence and positioning is way more important in LoL, if a solo laner dies and his tower is under attack then his team either rushes there or kisses the tower goodbye, and when he revives he has to walk back. losing map presence is a lot worse than losing a few hundred gold and then TPing back to tower. TP costs like, 3 creeps?

Ответить
@SimpleReally
@SimpleReally - 25.09.2013 15:05

TP scroll: "you actually have to buy it", man this is gonna take a whi... oh wait, 135g, and my flying chicken is bringing it to me while i afk farm. Such a huge investment. I can now never leave lane and still be able to show up to any team fights. If you need an explanation about opportunity cost and how losing time is a lot more punishing than losing some gold and then TPing back to the fight then we are done talking.

Ответить
@Sylian-
@Sylian- - 25.09.2013 17:35

Is that all you had to say? And you aren't able to show to any teamfigts. You can only tp to your own towers and the DotA map is much bigger. You need to control to map and if you get rid of these then they are gone. It only seems like you really aren't familiar with DotA at all. I even explained it to you how it's needed. The map is huge in comparison to LoL's too. It isn't like an actual free way out like flash. Also did you read at all? We are punished a lot more in DotA.

Skill cap of DotA is obviously higher but at what point is the skill cap high enough? Is a higher skill cap always better? Maybe basketball would be better if players were blindfolded. Or maybe football/soccer would be better with 3 balls in play at once. Tennis too, also a very simple game yet incredible to play and watch, but maybe it would be even better with moving bear traps. Obviously these changes increase skill cap and punish mistakes but that doesn't make them any less stupid.

Because they way that dota differs builds up more suspense and makes the individual fights far more important and exciting. Also soccer with 3 balls and tennis with bear traps sounds a lot more entertaining than the originals. Just like 2GD said, dota is more of an esport than juts a fun competitive game like the developers of Lol intended it to be.
