Human awareness has been oversimplified by philosophers, psychologists, and neuroscientists, but the more they learn, the more they don't comprehend.
ОтветитьI`ll tell you a miracle. Sadhguru`s wife dies in her early thirties. The police don`t do an formal investigation. Sadhguru claims it`s the result of some made-up yogic practice Mahasamadhi. Everyone accepts the explanation.
That is the most powerful miracle Sadguru has ever pulled off!
Outside of human conceptual frameworks, complexity, simplicity, and emergence do not have intrinsic power or explanatory value. They are descriptive tools rather than fundamental attributes of the universe. In a naturalistic universe where everything interacts with everything else continuously, the concepts of complexity, simplicity, emergence are completly meaningless and therefore connot be used to try to explain conciousness. One could postulate of course that there is an undiscovered law of nature that one or some specific spacetime material configuration creates somethink outside of the naturalistic universe in a plane of subjectivity, but that would be no better then saying it is magic.
ОтветитьConsciousness is not a miracle. Consciousness merely 'IS'. Everything else shines because of Consciousness. Science can only explore the 'observed' and can explain 'How' of things but not often the 'Why' of things. One has to use the correct instrument to inquire into a particular field of study. For example, one cannot use a microscope to inquire into the field of Sound. Similarly, Science simply does not have the instrument to explore the field of consciousness. Using science to explain creation and consciousness is similar to using Chemistry to study Classical music.

ОтветитьAs a European and intellectual person, I feel ashamed that Pinker is the represent of Western thinking on such a panel. Sadhguru is exceptionally eloquent and he should be sitting together with someone who matches his depths of existential understanding.
ОтветитьWhen pinker called it dirt , he knew exactly what he implied....
ОтветитьConciousness cannot be described. We all know this. Trying to describe it is doing it a disservice.
Ответитьसतगुरु की महिमा अनंत, अनंत किया उपकार । लोचन अनंत उघारिया, अनंत दिखावनहार॥
Thanks to Prof. Steven Pinker & to Dr. Bala Subramaniam for this to happen..
Prof., you say a lot yet it doesn't say much when differentiating consciousness and awareness; this is because the Engilsh language has limitations when it comes to deciphering words of Yogic science.
ОтветитьThere is no right or wrong, I truly respect both speakers looking at science and miracle in different eyes and perepective ❤
ОтветитьWhatever the Sad guru is speaking, speaking from mind and intelligent by logical deduction. But still he tries to differentiate consciousness, logic, and awareness (But everything is part of brain). He does not want us to use our logic. He has his own definition of miracle, which is childish.
ОтветитьThis is the first time that I've watched a great debate in calmness till the end!!
ОтветитьWhat is he 😮the embodiment of negativity 🤔 He won't find the truth in this lifetime.
ОтветитьBest example of a stobern, materialistic mind wich ultimately results in a nialistic worldview wich acts as a infectious disease, that after poisoning ones own mind, spreads by word and thought and propogates decay, while staying in a conflict with a healthy imune system, wich is connection with the highest order if life.
ОтветитьBlah blah blah the scientist is a boring muppet
ОтветитьGood delineation between the two of them of "miracle" versus logical ... the wondrous magic of life is not to be captured by logic. Where logic might describe and comment on it, it does not account for it. Voila: wondrous, miraculous, magical.
ОтветитьPinker oversimplified in his dismissal of paranormal experiences. And in insisting there is no physical cause for such, he forgot that trillions of particles pass through our brain every second and that a myriad of fields permeate the brain and non-brain continuously. He did add that he is willing to update his take to his credit, but right there it is: the nearly infinite interaction between particles and fields and the brain "field."

ОтветитьThis guy concludes that concioussness is produced by the brain because he can see that the brain greatly affects it. That is not a scientific discovery, that is an assumption, it might be a reasonable assumption, but it is still is a belief.
It would be the same as believing that the brain is a vessel and receiver of concioussness. Both are a beliefs and have not been proven. The fact that he speaks with such dogmatic certainty is unfortunate.
❤🙏🏻
ОтветитьI say this is amazing. I love science and what science doesn't know, this two are what i say, and i love it, but i must say, i know science doesn't explain all, and some says if science doesn't say dat or i can't explain this stuff must be like what the others stuffs i can explain. How you know you gonna explain this in 100 or 10000 years in the future?
ОтветитьThere are no miracles. Or everything is a miracle.
It is better to use the words wonderful or amazing even for the things that we do understand intellectually (to whatever extent).
As for consciousness, I lack the words. But there is this entity, this presence, that is aware of my thoughts and actions even as I am writing this, and it is always here. I can observe my brain, my body, etc. They're not me, though, and only "mine" for a very tiny amount of time. Maybe consciousness can also be called awareness 🙏
What one may gather from the comments will not satisfy all, neither can science have all the answers, so to pitch one against the other by comparing is unwise. Why is it so difficult to come to a common understanding that all human consciousness is the same, only those who disagree may care to respond. Will it be a miracle if someone HAS the answer🤷🏻♂️. In all seriousness I ask this question, is there this solid ground where mankind is choice less in accepting TRUTH. 🤗

ОтветитьPinker is stuck with miracles... and a bit obsessed about it, in my opinion.
ОтветитьOnce "growing old" judges the winner of a game, consciousness exists. Proof: the assumption that, "the survivors here today" are the winners of the game of evolution, seemed obvious to Charles Darwin. But that does not explain why it feels good to win and why winners feel motivated to win. We assume, in science books, that consciousness is a useful trait of the brain because obviously it feels best to be healthy and to avoid pain, which are obviously keys to survival. So, the conscious judge of the winner of the game of evolution is part of the game and has judged themselves the winner! It is only a recent misconception that winners feel motivated to win. If someone is old now, then when they were young, they were predetermined to grow old whatever motivation they felt along that path. Proving, once "growing old" judges the winner of a game, consciousness of the game exists.
ОтветитьI'm no genius, but even I can see holes Pinker's reasoning. For example, quantum entanglement puts a major hole in his reasoning or what Uncle Albert referred to as; " Spooky action at a distance." Next time they should get someone with a brain and not a Noam Chomsky want-ta-be. The End. Good-Luck and Good-Bye.
ОтветитьSadhguru is right
ОтветитьDr is talking about conciousness as in coming awake from sleep concious.
Sadhguru is talking about a different conciousness ( for lack of a better equivavlent word in english for "Shiva" - that which is not )
Is America THIS dumb.
ОтветитьAcademicians have no imagination.
While scientists say "physics is all about Fields," they can't even imagine that Consciousness is a field and we're all in it.
No miracle whatever SadhGuru says is magical
