HITACHI ESTABLISHES VIETNAM SUBSIDIARY
Citing rapid urban growth, Hitachi, Ltd. has established wholly owned subsidiary Hitachi Elevator Vietnam Co., Ltd., headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In 2015, Hitachi received an order for more than 60 units for Urban Railway Line 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's first urban railway system. This was followed by Hitachi's launch of a new machine-room-less elevator for Asia and the Middle East. Sales of the new units were launched in September, and Hitachi expects the product to enhance its market share in Vietnam.
MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC RIDING HIGH ON L.A. BUILDING BOOM
The construction boom in Los Angeles is resulting in significant work for vertical-transportation companies, including the Cypress, California-based division of Mitsubishi Electric, which reports it recently installed or will install nearly 100 units in various projects downtown. Recently won contracts in the South Park area include the US$1-billion Oceanwide Plaza being developed by Beijing's Oceanwide near the Staples Center and the first phase of Metropolis, a mega project north of L.A. Live being developed by the Greenland Group of Shanghai. Mike Corbo, general manager and executive vice president of Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. Elevator and Escalator Division, said the company "is excited to be playing an integral role in the exponential growth and amazing transformation of downtown L.A."
NEW HOTEL QUICKLY RISING IN NYC’S TIMES SQUARE
Completion is expected in 2017 on a 42-story, 517-ft.-tall EDITION by Marriott hotel in the heart of New York City’s (NYC) Times Square at 701 Seventh Avenue, New York YIMBY reports. Located on the corner of West 47th Street, the structure will contain approximately 450 hotel rooms, retail on the cellar through fourth-floor levels and hotel rooms starting on the 14th floor. Two sides of EDITION's base will boast an 18,000-sq.-ft. LED display. Witkoff, Ian Schrager Co., Winthrop Realty Trust and Maefield Development are behind the project, designed by Platt Byard Dovell White Architects.
