Oh no! I have the primo 4K player (Panasonic) and I thought, for what I could see, was a terrible transfer. It was mostly slightly blurry. If I were to compare it to Tombstone, well there is no comparison. So, do you think I could have a bad copy? I really value your judgements. So I’m confused. Any insight?
ОтветитьWhy can’t they do this with all transfers?
ОтветитьBought this on day 1 but haven't watched it yet. I have the blu-ray release and the last time I watched that I remember thinking that actually looked really good, so I can't wait to view this in 4K UHD!
ОтветитьGot my DIRTY HARRY 4K Blu-Ray steelbook at Walmart last night transfer A+
ОтветитьI've got the film on Pre-order.👍
ОтветитьHey Jeff, I’m thinking of replacing my Sony UBPX700 4K player with a more efficient player that doesn’t freeze and that can play my region locked blu rays as well. What would you recommend? Thanks.
ОтветитьClint eastwood is a big hollywood star but now WHV brings 3 of his great movies in 4k only in usa but this movies dont get a avrupain release in 4k why😡
ОтветитьI’d love to be ur age again 😂. Discovering classics for the first time has to be a blast
ОтветитьI can’t quite get my head around how anyone with a love of movies hasn’t seen the Dirty Harry series. It’s a period that produced a number of classic game changing titles (and established a number of big name actors). I first saw the original Dirty Harry movie at our 6th form school film society … must have been 1972 or 73 ? … I was on the committee and pushed for Dirty Harry. It must have been a good season, we also ran Bullet and French Connection … still not sure how we got our selection list past the masters that ran oversight on what we exposed the rest of the 6th form to … we even managed to swing Barbarella (one of our committee had a bit of a thing for Jane Fonda !!). This was back in the days when the films were made available on 16mm for private screenings. The key to getting films through oversight was to be able to argue Critical Acclaim or Artistic Merit. Tongues firmly wedged in cheek 😏 … that’s a Grammar School education for you!!!
Through the 80s and 90s, the Dirty Harry movies were regularly screened on TV … but have largely sunk without trace for the past 20 years. It’s good to see them back in the public eye … though I guess a little dated in various aspects … I think they still hold up well (anyone under the age of 30 wondering why the importance and dependency on public phone boxes 😂).
Still can’t get over you telling us you’d never seen Dirty Harry … you must have had a seriously deprived childhood 😂😂😂😂
Jeff! Thanks for the review and heads up about Gruv! Just grabbed this and Outlaw Josie Wales on steelbook!
ОтветитьI own dirty harry collection 5 dvd boxed set 7 bucks at book off
ОтветитьGood find
ОтветитьEastwood + 70s + Warner Bros + panavision + 4k = amazing
ОтветитьHi Jeff got all three on order hopefully get them next week
ОтветитьBest decade ever for movies. No woke crap full of butch female leads. And crappy cgi with fast cuts
ОтветитьTo me, the 70s, 80s and 90s were the second Golden Age of Cinema
ОтветитьI bought 4K UHD STEELBOOK of “DIRTY HARRY” last week. Was only available as regular 4k wasn’t available. I haven’t opened it yet as I was waiting for your review. I saw the movie decades ago. On DVD. I was almost 11 when it originally first came out in theaters. Thanks. Oh! Hope you had a happy Easter. How are you and wife and the baby?
ОтветитьGood review Jeff. I’m a little hesitant to pick this up as I think it’s possible WB releases a box set of the entire series down the road. I own the Dirty Harry box set on DVD that was released years ago. I mean it could be year or two or 3 before that happens, but it’s possible. I’d like to get all the movies in 4K.
ОтветитьWanker 🎉
ОтветитьHigh hopes for the outlaw Josey Wells and pale rider then?
ОтветитьIf you think this is the best then you're blind as a bat it's chuck full of grain management and tons of static grain following everyone around and the night scenes are soft af
ОтветитьNoooooooo!
They took the time to scan it @ 8k but didn't take the time to produce a Dolby vision image 😫😭🤬.
Shame on WB for not spending the money on the best picture. I couldn't give a stuff about Dolby Atmos and yes, I have a full Dolby Atmos setup, which I enjoy for new releases but not on old classic films 🤬
I wish I'd taken more notice of the specs before I ordered...... But it's too late now I've just had it delivered 😩.
On a side note, how on earth have you never seen this film 😲👍🤣
Never seen it?! Inconceivable! But I am twice your age so it’s not really surprising! Glad to see you posting more frequently and love the new podcast!
ОтветитьThis is your first time seeing dirty Harry? Amazing had you seen any of the others before this Jeff it is a wonderful series.
ОтветитьHonestly I think I'm going to wait on this one only because knowing Warner Brothers they are probably working on the other films and a box set will soon follow. I have the complete dirty Harry set on Blu-ray and as much as I am very anxious to see it in 4K financially I'm just going to sit on it until the set comes out. I'm really looking forward to the outlaw Josey Wales One of my favorite westerns of all time outside of unforgiven and tombstone.
ОтветитьMechanically it cannot be the "Best 4k" . Its simply cannot. It can be a great transfer, but unless you film in 4k with HDR it simply cannot be. Excluding story etc.
ОтветитьOk, now I'm really looking forward to receiving my copy. I absolutely love this film
Ответить3rd review I've seen where the reviewer had never seen Dirty Harry until it came out on 4K, despite it being 53 years old. Agree with the 1970s being the best decade for cinema.
ОтветитьAs a 54 year old who grew up watching this movie, and its 4 sequels its fun to see it reviewed so well by the younger generation. Great channel, Jeff.
ОтветитьI got all the Clint Eastwoods steelbook classics on Pre order (cant wait). I also 100% agree often the original 2 channel audio remastered (laser disk) is often much better than a modern remixed Atmos mix. U will definitely notice this if u have good quality revealing speakers 🔊 and helps if u have REL sub in stereo. Good Stereo can create a 3d soundstage ....why slice and chop it up into seperate channels ?
ОтветитьYou look to old to not have watch a Dirty Harry film Jeff. It has ran on cable for years and probably still on there right now.
ОтветитьYou have never seen Dirty Harry ....? My gosh.
ОтветитьI have all the Clint movies you had in your other vid saved to buy. I wanted to see your review first. I love Dirty Harry, but the other two are my favs.
ОтветитьNever seen Dirty Harry before? Wow, you are young. Great movie but Magnum Force is better and you probably haven't seen that one yet either.
ОтветитьDirty Harry has been on my 4K wishlist for long time. Haven't ordered it yet. Have been holding out for an announcement for the entire 5-film collection. I hate when the studios release the first film of a franchise and then after you buy it, the collection is announced and you cannot buy the sequels individually (as Karate Kid, Predator, Superman).
ОтветитьTy for the review, been looking forward to this one, I think the only problem I had with the original dvd versions was just how dark the night scenes get.
ОтветитьOne of these days I’m gonna have to get a 4K player.
ОтветитьNice, hoping there's a boxset of all Dirty Harry films remastered before I buy.
ОтветитьMy biggest concern was that WB changes the audio for Atmos. I’ve grown on the changes they made to Batman, but it’s not good. I love how that if I don’t like the new audio that I can just change it. That’s awesome.
Ответить8K OCN scan
ОтветитьIt’s April.
ОтветитьEven the standard bluray was absolutely pristine …. Excited for this
ОтветитьGuess I’ll pick it up!
ОтветитьYour Dad never popped in the vhs and played Dirty Harry for you. I'm surprised. What was wrong with him? lol.
ОтветитьI watched it for the first time this year. I put his 44magnum on my gun wish list
ОтветитьHitchcock films are fantastic,I was lucky to see them in the 80's when they released them on the big screen 70 mm.
ОтветитьLooking forward to getting this on 4k. I met Scorpio killer actor Andrew Robinson last week
ОтветитьI wish crime movies today had cop characters that existed in a morally grey area. Like, you kinda understand why they do what they do, even though their methods border on the fascistic. Not that I’m complaining that films are too PC these days, but there’s a sense that a film studio today wouldn’t put out a film that leaves you unsure about whether you’re supposed to like the protagonist or not.
ОтветитьI have the blu ray collection. Picture quality is excellent. And the blu ray collection cost me half the RRP of this 1 movie. 4k. Easy choice. Stick to the blu ray!
