I still like how Troy handled it. She knows she is not qualified for the position, yet she takes suggestions from people who are while keeping the chain of command. Its almost like a new lieutenant gets command and has a 10 year seasoned sergeant who follows his orders a good commander will take the advice of his subordinates especially if a rookie.

I think it's often missed what a great O'brien scene this is. He can sense that Ro is about to take charge, and while her "phaser em all and let the prophets sort em out" approach to leadership has its place, she's not the person you want making choices when your pregnant wife is lost somewhere in the lower decks. O'brien knows Troi well enough to know that she'll listen to a more thorough, patient approach than Ro and chooses that moment to bring up this particular point of protocol.

It's a really authentic feeling moment of a senior enlisted man having to lead up and take charge of a situation indirectly while not overstepping his bounds.

O'Brien was such a great character even before DS9. He is experienced enough to be in command, but he is super loyal and uplifts Troi even in her uncertainty.

I loved 🥰 the way she played the ship’s counselor commands the ship after the Lieutenant was killed by a filament that caused the explosion 💥 on the computer 🖥 to kill her and the others were fine and the ship’s power is out and she looks good in her sexy space suit but it’s only a costume and it’s only fictional and I still love ❤️ the way she sense people on the ship and she said many of them are hurt but she can’t tell where they are and she and the others trying to get the ship’s power back on and I loved her hair style turned out to be a wig but I also liked her real life long hair style and I also liked the way she does her stuff and before the ending I also liked the way she talks to the ensign and I also liked the way she moves.(I seen her butt cheeks moving and I seen her bra lines showing since she’s sitting on the Captain’s chair 🪑.) I love the way she sits down on episode 5 Disaster and I also liked she said “I don’t think I’m cut out to be Captain” and “First officer maybe” 🤔 and “There aren’t that many qualifications” and that’s good times I have with this episode of ST: TNG.👍

That episode from the bridge always felt abit off and i imagen they were going for that. It became clear right away that Troi was not rdy to be in command. Maybe it wouldent have made mutch sense as far as the episodes plot but i would have liked to se Troi talk to Picard and ask for some command training becouse even near the end of the episodes she dident actually make any desitions of her own but instead went with what she thought was the best option that the others suggested. Taking ideas from others are fine ofc but if u dont have any of your own especially in a disaster like that then your clearly not rdy for the role. Based on her reaction she dident even know she was the next in command.

for a long time watching this series you do have to wonder about troi`s role on the enterprise and when we first meet her and apart from finding out that she`s the ships counsellor and used to a thing with will riker we probably don`t know that much about her, and off course during the episodes of encounter at far point we soon learn of her incredible abilities of sensing emotions and people`s feelings but this does seem to get dumbed down in later episodes, and as far as i can see for much of the future episodes she seems to be mostly on board to get in trouble, fall in love with the handsome aliens she meets, and off course eat loads of chocolate, and although she`s supposed to be an extremely capable member of star fleet, and let alone a lieutenant commander, the fact that she seems to spend most episodes walking about the ship wearing clothes to show off her ample charms does not really seem to help her cause even if no doubt us men fans were checking out her cleavage, so to find her apparently in command on the bridge during one of the best star trek the next generation episodes namely disaster has got to be really good for her charachter, and i love the way that at any minute ro thinks that she`s now going to be command, and off course no one wants that, so for o`brien to point out that troi is actually in command is sticking two fingers up to ro, and you just have to love that because after all ro`s only role on the ship seemed to be a surly bitch, and off course in later seasons when troi gets to put on a proper star fleet uniform and off course is made up to the rank of commander it`s really brilliant that she finally get a decent role among the crew, and it`s even possible that you just have to watch the star trek movies that she`s in just to see her role on the enterprise improve more and more, troi`s probably one of the better things about the next generation, and thankfully at least during the last episodes the writers finally realised this, and gave her some better story lines.

Troy is high rank yet not trained in certain areas that most her friends. Than again it's mainly her job as councilor not to know every technical thing about the ship, so cannot blame her for requesting assistance. I don't think Troy is at all concerned about that. She seems more preoccupied with the safety of a fellow officer who is off the ship, from her facial expressions. She sure is ADORABLE 😁

You could make a case that Ro’s abrasion to Troi is the result of her subconscious lust for Riker, which she acts upon a few episodes later when they all lose their memories. Probably wasn’t too thrilled at having to take orders from his ex.

I know there’s a lot of back and forth about how ‘useful/useless’ Troi was I honestly feel it’s fine. After hearing about the kinds of work Marina Sirtis was doing BEFORE Star Trek, I’d rather her be in a role where she doesn’t do much but sit around then continue with—other things and roles she hated.

That said I think the show struggling to give her something to do WAS always an issue. She’s as close to a deus ex figure the show had outside of say Guinan or Q. This was a great little episode that gave us a chance to see a character thrust out of her comfort zone more than just about anyone else could be. If nothing else it’s a great writing tool!

Is a good thing she is literate in the emotional language of her ship's crew, once the trust in the relationship is established the brilliance of the collective consciousness of the ship shall shine forth.

They should make a Picard spinoff called Captain Deana Only she's not a starfleet captain but captain of a rescue or research ship or a bigger colony ship than Enter prise. Right cause TNG origibal pitch was that Enterprise is a cruiser/coliniser. If Marina doesn't want to act, maybe someone like Wynona Ryder or Rose McGowan. It could cause a naughty child moment for the trads that haunt the web. But maybe it will spark helpful counterarguments for a lot of their other naughty child moments at the same time.
