Meta Quest 3S Is Really Good! But...

Great video, mate! It's awesome to see VR finally becoming accessible to everyone again.

It's obvious they're trying to sell the leftovers of Quest 2 that they had lying around in their warehouses with some Quest 3 add-ons. So Quest3S is just Quest 2+

Im one of the few who prefer the Quest 2 controllers to the Quest 3 controllers. The Q2 ones have a much much longer battery life and they just feel more solid. The Quest 3 controllers are too small and sometimes im afraid im going to break them. I like feeling something more substantial in my hands esp in games that have guns.

In regards to the Q3S being worse than the Q3, that’s what been hot in the gaming market lately starting with Xbox.

Xbox Series consoles is a very similar product, where the Xbox S version is worse than the Xbox X but is a significant upgrade from the Xbox One.

Q3 is for experienced VR vets
Q3S is for newer VR players and for economic players.

And for those of us that only use a q2 for steam vr???
Controllers use the same shitty transducers as q2, designed to fail

For me, as a hardcore Beat Saber player, I dislike the Quest 3 controllers. The Quest 2 controllers are better for really fast movement. The Quest Pro controllers are really good. Better than both of the others. If you only do PCVR and you already have a Quest 2, the Quest 3S is 100% identical. I personally don't see the Quest 3S as a reasonable upgrade. I find the Quest 3 to hardly be worth it. I will be skipping this gen of Quest headsets, but that's just me. If you are in to mixed reality, and need to have the next gen games, then that's really the only way I can recommend upgrading. If you are just getting into VR then the Quest 3/S are a no-brainer.

I got a 3S mainly because my 13 year old is into VR and I want to try out Batman .

As a quest 2 owner I don’t see the upgrade, same lenses and displays, also I am personally more into multiplayer games, does anyone know good games that would make it worth upgrading?

Because there is no depth sensor it can actually be used in the dark which the Quest 3 can’t. Honestly this is a little bit bigger of a deal than most people are acknowledging.

The way I see it if your new, buying for a kid, not fully in love with VR get the 3s. It's the new starter for the next gen of games...if you have a quest 2 or other VR and looking for a more mobile version spend the extra and get the 3 because you will notice the difference if only slightly..and if your really into vr gaming and spend a lot of time on it the 3 is better.. IMHO

Is their a quest 3s without batman, without quest+, and without the 30$ quest cash. (Yes I am trying to save that much money)

It would be nice for meta to include gfx settings per game so those with the Meta Quest 3 would be able to switch between low and high rez some games would run better on lower rez and be able to give 120 fps with more consistently especially games with cartoon style gfx, battery would last longer and the thermals will be better with reduced motion sickness, would also be nice if they would allow external encrypted SSD usb-c storage as a way of expanding these headsets.

So for the guy that wanted to stay cheap and got a psvr 1 in 2020 and found a fb marketplace psvr 2 for $150 in 2024 which quest should I go to? Literally only looking to play batman and assassins creed? Both dream VR games for a console player

I think this is great for VR as the Quest 2 has been holding back the VR industry so much. It came out almost 5 years ago and there is a huge back catalogue of games so no one is really losing out. People spend more than £299 on a phone every 3 or 4 years. But the newer quest 3 and 3s headsets will now be free to move forward. I think we will see a big jump in game quality in 2025. Ive had Quest 3 since release and really feel it has not reached its potential yet, a few enhanced games but nothing really from the ground up, not until batman.
As to fresnel lenses, once you get the hotspot and get in to a game you actually forget they are not pancakes. This is what I find with PSVR2 anyway. so I think Meta made the right choice and it makes sense to have a premium Quest 3 for a cheaper 3s. No headphone jack mmmm, I only ever use headphones, but you should be able to use a USBc to heaphone adaptor.

Who knows maybe quest 4 will get us back to the graphical quality of PCVR in 2017 by 2027. Now thats been a long side step. But it will be in the hands of the masses then and make sense for developers to put larger budgets in to games. But it is slightly worrying how much control meta have of the VR industry, and what their end vision may be, hopefully not horizon worlds because that is utter shite.

I think the 128GB version will sell like hotcakes, the below 300 price tag is very attractive to people I know who were sticking with the Quest 2 or casual gamers and you also get Batman and $30. What a deal for a all in one VR console with a decent chip. Like you say though not having the simple headphone jack is a little bit of a miss.

One thing I find funny is since Meta have tried to phase out anything and everything related to Oculus why do their headsets continue with the same sort of strap as the Oculus Rift CV1? Is it just a cost thing? I would have thought they would have wanted to define their own style.

So GT recommends buying the Bobo S3 Pro headstrap at £110, nearly half the price of the 3s headset again! WTF.? NO way, totally disproportionate, maybe get the Bobo M3 for £50 after a month of daily usage and comfort issues persist. Ignore the 'must purchase' affiliate shilling 😢 Ridiculous advice

I just used your link to order the Q3S. I have the Q2 and still enjoy it a few times a month, but the better controllers and color passthrough have pulled me over the fence. I should have the Q3S in the next day or 2. I don't play/can't stay in VR enough to justify the Q3 price tag, even at the new lower price. This is going to be an early xmas present for me as well, so I really can't complain. The only things I didn't like about the Q2 over time were the halo controllers and B&W passthrough, oh and the rubber face mask. The newer clothish looking one looks way more comfy. I haven't been this excited since my friend brought his Q2 3 years ago. (I also used a credit card that I didn't know I was earing points with over the past couple of years so I got it at an additional $100 off.) I know that it was right around this time of year because I went out the next week and got one and I specifically remembering it being the day of Halloween. You re wrong about onething, the reason why this headset exists is because meta dont want to reduce the price of meta quest 2 but sell something for the same price. Dont mind me, I am someone who was looking forward to afford a quest 2 when new verstion comes but couldnt because meta discontinued it.

Its literally just a quest 2 with pass through.... Just spend the extra for the better display and pancake lenses.

The way i imagine it going down at meta (just a guess) zuck wanted a price point and asked everyone ideas to get the price down to his set price and the head jack was the last of the removals so remove the pancake lens, remove the depth sensor, etc

The sad/cool part is that due to the reused optics, if you plan on using a PC primarily to render things, then the Quest 2 is objectively better due to the headphone jack and the more ergonomic controllers (let's not kid ourselves, those rings are very useful for handling and storage... The cope on the ringless controllers is too funny).

Thanks to your video I have learned that the meta quest 3S doesn't have a headphone jack. I didn't see that mentioned anywhere else and is a huge deal for me, so I'll be getting the quest 3

Just bought this as my first ever VR, kind of wish i put the extra in for the normal 3 as the s is blurry for me, but not just sure if ive got shit eyes 😬
