Knowing Pynchon, that's actually how he envisioned what the songs in Gravity's Rainbow sounded like. He's literally right on the line between genius and madness and his whole life he's been jumping back and forth over that line like Jack Sparrow. Is he brilliant or insane? Does he really plan it all out or only make it all up as he goes? The answer is always "Yes".
