Ayyy, DOCTOR Climate Adam let's gooo! We cherish and value the information you share with us so much! And you being the ray of sunshine that you are only makes the learning process even more fun. Thank you!
ОтветитьSo cool how technologies developed for one application can be applied to others. My favorite example has always been how fundamental research about magnetism was applied to Radio Interferometry which greatly advanced the field of Radio Astronomy, which in turn was applied in creating MRIs for medicine. Now it turns out that you took MRI technology and applied it toward helping better understand the Climate Crisis, I love it
ОтветитьSo Adam, when applying for the Green Climate Fund, you have to show how your project has "potential for paradigm shift". I know the term comes from the philosophy of science and is about things like the newton-einstein shift... But... How the hell should idk, subzidized solar lamps in Mozambique contribute to that?
ОтветитьWhoop! Congratulations on writing a thing several years ago that is not nonsense! :D And thanks for another video that's also not nonsense!
ОтветитьOmg congratulations Climate Adam!! I am very happy your research got into the IPCC report. I think that's amazing, no matter if you think it's a small or big feat.
Thank you for giving us your time and for making many informational videos. Looking forward to the sea level rise video! 💙
you are a genius! whatever field of study you chose, they are lucky to have you. you make the world a better place.
ОтветитьSharing scientific research with non-scientists, in terms the layperson can understand, is equally as important as doing the research
ОтветитьSuper interesting Adam - I'd love to hear more about your PhD experience! I'll be starting my own doctoral research this year which I'm super excited about.
ОтветитьC’mon matching the colour of your nail varnish to the metaphorical colour of your topic of the video!! 💅🌧
ОтветитьI just hit a decade from starting my doctorate at Oxford too, time flies! 🙌
ОтветитьI really enjoyed this. Very understandable you forgot all the code :) Thanks for sharing Adam!
ОтветитьYou were cited in the IPCC report!!?!?! falls over Well... academia's loss is all of our gain x
ОтветитьThank you, Climate Adam! What a cool creative thought to juxtapose seemingly unrelated technologies to help us better understand our predicament. Your work, outreach, and communications are important and appreciated.
ОтветитьInteresting. Do you factor in how wildfires affect rainfall of an area?
ОтветитьCool! Happy (10 year) anniversary!
ОтветитьAlso, right there in the same paragraph with Held and Soden. Wow!
ОтветитьCongrats
ОтветитьIndividuals, politicians and corporations all need to do more to protect the planet from Climate Change.
Support environmentally friendly products and companies. Stop using fossil fuels. Stop using pesticides, add solar energy to your home or business, buy an ELECTRIC VEHICLE or get a BICYCLE or scooter, eat more FRUIT and VEGETABLES and less or no meat and dairy, plant a tree, recycle everything. All new plastic products need to be made from 100% recycled materials. No single use plastic products should be made. Every adult and child should own a BICYCLE and ride it regularly. Donate to non profits fighting for a better future. Support and elect climate leaders. Every child should plant a tree, bush or flowers wiith a parent or teacher. It will help connect them to nature and the environment. .Leave a better future for your children and grandchildren. We must stop adding more fossil fuels to the CLIMATE FIRE. Voting matters. Local, state and federal elections all matter and have an impact on your life. Do your part. Is the company where you work or the city you live in doing their part ?
congrats on the career path. for some of us it is hard to make tyhose choices, but Im glad its turning out well for you.
ОтветитьOMG cited by IPCC!! Congrats on that and also on being able to remember so much about your thesis... it's 9 years since I started my PhD and I would struggle to make a video like this about mine! I also had a lot of maths and a lot of coding that I forgot as soon as possible 😊
ОтветитьSo proud of you, Adam!
ОтветитьSuper interesting to hear about your research first-hand! One of your papers was actually shared by someone on the departmental email list at Reading the other day - it's not quite the IPCC.. but maybe a close second?
ОтветитьHi Adam. I have a question for you I wonder if you know the answer: Why do the poles seem to warm faster than other regions? If the average goes up 2C how is this distributed over the globe and over summer / winter time?
Ответитьso cool!! Your 10 year anniversary marks the beginning of my journey. So cool to see where you have been since then - gives me some confidence and motivation!! Hopefully we can chat PhDs more in the future :)
ОтветитьCongrats also on being cited!! So awesome
ОтветитьBy morphing, do you mean distorting the truth? Explain to your viewers about solar cycles, ocean oscillations, droughts, wildfires and of course, your expertise, rainfall. Note that the "Farmer's Almanac" has been more accurate than climate models for over 200 years.
ОтветитьGreat. Awesome. I wonder if you had any comment about certain geophysical climate scientists who have (*sniff*, nose up in air) stern opinions about modern stuff like: (a) applying "weird" techniques like medical imaging to understanding climate models as opposed to deeper fluid dynamics parses based upon analytical work, and (b) who pooh-pooh the use of machine learning and other techniques for helping both numerical climate modeling and gaining understanding of What's Going On. On the former, that is, "(a)" while I am admittedly no kind of fluid dynamicist, not even amateur, I am a statistician by training and I wonder to what degree these explanations are "gods in the bushes" fallacies, that is, creating neat invocations of curious specific phenomena to explain a complicated which themselves cannot be falsified. (It's delicate because they are claiming to be deductive explanations from some kind of top theory.) On the latter, is this just a question of style? There are many ways to know any particular thing, it seems to me at least, and if a transparent ML approach can give understanding, why is that style inappropriate?
ОтветитьThe detail of how discovery is made, the inspiration for it is the hidden layer that engages many. A simple point of revelation is greatly enhanced by a woven in back story. Well done and The Planet says thank you.
Ответитьwhoop whoop! time to sign up for my upcoming medical, Dr. ;-)
ОтветитьClimate hysteria mandated poverty. Do I heat or do I eat? Short term I can burn the neighborhood fences. Perhaps I can have a neighbor for dinner.
ОтветитьGday Adam, have a question for you, hope it sparks your interest.
If you look at earthnullschool windspeed 10 hPa layer on any day June - Aug 2021 you will see many, very complex wind vortices. Compare this same day with any other year available and nullschool historically shows a very stable, extremely large clockwise rotating air mass (stratospheric high?). It impacts the 70 hPa layer as well, but less so.
For a layman like myself it looks like something significant has changed. Appreciate your comments or maybe a video on it.
Hi Adam! Your video is great and really helpful.. please do a video on the experiences.. I aspire to become a climate scientist so the video could be really helpful 💙💜
ОтветитьWhat nail varnish do you use and does it effect the climate. How do you feel about sun warming up by 10% every billion years or how about the earths orbit around the sun
ОтветитьI have such a huge crush on Adam, omg
ОтветитьAre you sure you’re not a member of the Umbrella Academy who’s gone lost in a separate dimension? 😉😏🥳🤩👍🛸
ОтветитьCan i do phd in atmospheric science with a bachelors degree in computer engineering
ОтветитьWhat's the difference between atmospheric science and meteorology?
ОтветитьDr Climate Adam ?
ОтветитьHi Adam, could you please suggest a topic for PhD in CC Education? Thank you in advance
ОтветитьBut your real U-tube name should be Doctor rain-man! I just love your work Adam and to avoid lawsuit, I understand the fluffy misstake! /Mikael
ОтветитьHi Adam! Just wondering if I can contact you for asking some questions related to application to PhD in Climate Physics at Oxford ?
ОтветитьThe Sun, the Sun, the Sun, the Sun the Sun the Sun the Sun, THE SUN
ОтветитьHi Climate Adam, I am very happy I came across your content People like you have inspired me to go back to school at 51 (almost 54 now) to go back to college and get my degree in Environmental Science. I have actually cited your work in some of assignments. Although I am too old to realistically pursue more than BS, I love you career path. I am most interested in those who are science communicators. I learn so much from them and I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
ОтветитьAww I'm so proud for you!!!
ОтветитьThe good news about global warming is that it’s not being caused by increasing solar output or any other natural uncontrollable cause — and also that mankind generally understands that it’s the ‘amplified greenhouse effect’ which is the source of increasing global temperatures. With this in mind, it well behooves us to rapidly advance and apply our scientific and technological knowledge to the point that the burning of fossil fuels to produce electricity will become as antiquated as the burning of whale oil for light.
Quote: “Anxiety must go. It must be replaced by faith and solemn confidence in the outworking of the divine plan.”
Note: As sunlight (photons) is warming the surface of the world, surface heat energy is also radiating away from our planet in the form of ‘infrared radiation’ which passes freely thru the atmospheric gases of nitrogen and oxygen which do not absorb heat. Indeed, if it weren’t for greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide that ‘do interact’ strongly with infrared energy and ‘impede the escape’ of Earth’s radiant heat, then the planet would be perpetually frozen solid. Thankfully, even though greenhouse gases comprise only 4/10ths of one percent of the atmosphere, they are so powerful that they maintain a ‘blanketing effect’ by constantly ‘absorbing and releasing’ infrared heat energy over and over, again and again. In doing so, they gyrate wildly, thus causing them to vigorously collide with other atmospheric molecules which, in turn, collide with other air molecules, imparting the kinetic energy of motion throughout the atmosphere — and this vibratory state registers as temperature.

hello Dr. I can't find your Thesis online, can you send me?...
ОтветитьWhat aging process? your skin is glowing! :O
ОтветитьHow an international student get the admission for phd in climate science in oxford university?
Ответитьthis is just what my research was on. but over the course of my PhD, I also went to hundreds of talks, read countless papers, met dozens of world leading researchers, and realised just how broad and amazing climate science really is. perhaps I'll talk about that side of the experience some other time..!
