This movie is burned in my brain. One of the handful of movies we had on video when i was around kindergarten. Im now 36
Ответитьhes like jack sparrow, a genius pretending to be a idiot ships cook, which is why i love him
ОтветитьLove this movie. This is Long John!
ОтветитьI prefer Muppet Treasure Island
ОтветитьRobert Newton is the best Long John Silver.
ОтветитьHe was also known to the crew as "Barbecue", couldn't get more piratical than that!
ОтветитьRobert Newman birthed the way Long John spoke.
Charlton Heston copied him.
But Tim Curry convinced you he could be trusted.
Long John would double cross anyone, even his own crew to save his neck but the Tim Curry interpretation made me believe he genuinely liked Jim.
Always just think of ol charlie crumb when I see clips from this movie
ОтветитьI wish I had been alive in 1950 or even earlier and could have seen this film when it first was broadcast.
ОтветитьI love how he’s sly and manipulative, no one saw it coming
ОтветитьNewton will always be the greatest Silver, because you can never make your mind up about him - he's always so jolly and likeable, but always has something sinister and slightly unhinged underneath, and you can never be 100% sure whether he's being honest or twisting you around, even at the movie's end.
ОтветитьEpic Robert Newton!! The epitome of the quintessential PIRATE 🏴☠️ ❤❤
ОтветитьNewton was awesome but when Charlton Heston got the role 40 years later....the torch was passed to him.
ОтветитьRobert Louis Stevenson. Need I say more?
ОтветитьTop of the morning to ya laddies!
ОтветитьThe code may have been set forth by Morgan and Bartholomew, but the manner of speakin' as it were, was set forth by Newton.
ОтветитьThis man was a brilliant actor. Oh, sorry, brilliant actARRRRR.
ОтветитьRumor abounds that this performance is the origin of Pirates going "Yarr harr me matey" and laying the groundwork for pirate performances to come.
Ответить“Sirrrrhhhrrr”
ОтветитьThe One Leg Man Brings Death
ОтветитьRobert Newton; what a marvelous character actor he was!
He absolutely terrified me when I was a kid, as Bill Sikes in David Lean’s Oliver Twist.
His performance as Silver is equal parts friendly and menacing.
It’s so sad that he passed away only 50 years old due to alcoholism.
I was 7 years old when my Nan took me to see this film. It made a great impression on me. The most exciting part being young Jim Hawkins chased up the rigging with pistols drawn. For me anyway, Newton was Long John Silver. I loved the tv show in the 1954 as well, And warmed to dear old Peggerty, the motherly house keeper.
ОтветитьWho else came here after watching an episode of "Today I Found Out" about the English language?
ОтветитьRobert Newton was born to be a Pirate actor such as Blackbeard or even Long John.
ОтветитьLooks like a western.
ОтветитьIm not crazy right? Barbossa was inspired by Robert Newtons Long John Silver?
ОтветитьIt’s a shame not many people remember this film. It’s a true classic.
ОтветитьWhat are they eating for breakfast? What's the food they are eating?
Ответитьinterhigh gang where ye at
ОтветитьRoger Daltrey brought me here, comments made how Keith turned into Robert!
Enjoyed the book, as an adult and child (my dad would read it to me at bedtime). Gonna have to watch this film now, looks great!
Robert Newton & Keith Moon. Separated at birth. 🤔
ОтветитьGarrr!
ОтветитьThat’s crazy cool
Ответитьnobody to touch him
ОтветитьAfter all these decades, I just cannot envision anyone other than Robert Newton as Long John Silver.
ОтветитьOoooarrrrrHaharrr
ОтветитьA wonderful movie watched over 30 years ago
ОтветитьI grew up with this film and I still love it!
ОтветитьSuperb.
ОтветитьThe laugh says “oh heck yes”
ОтветитьRobert Newton will always be the best long john silver and Sykes of Oliver Twist
ОтветитьI bet Geoffery Rush based Captain Barbossa off Newton's Long John Silver! If you notice the mannerisms are quite alike I.e. the constant rolling eyes!
ОтветитьWe need more situations where a man can yell "Apperences be hanged"
ОтветитьYoud never know it by reading these comments, but this is the origin of the pirates accent
ОтветитьI so remember this....magic as a child
ОтветитьThis man, in this one movie, literally defined what the modern world considers to be a pirate.
