What is your experience of hardtail riding? Did you start on one and never look back or do you always ride one? Let us know 👇

I just switched to a hardtail with a dropper post and front suspension after 4 years of full suspension e-bike. My e-bike was eating drivetrain parts like bread. 🤑

I can't describe how much I love your videos about hardtails. I bought my first Hardtail in 1997. After that, I rode a lot of Fullys. But 4 years ago I bought a Hardtail again. A Steel-Hardtail from Sour.Bikes. I love it. As you say, one bike for everything. I can watch your hardtail videos over and over again. I love them. They speak from my soul and sweeten my day. thank you soo much.

Thank you for the video GMBN, I wanted a budget full sus but now I'm thinking I'll save money and still have a worthy and incredibly fun bike. I'm not at a high level yet but I'm still considering entry level and maybe slightly higher. Thank you again.

I ride good spec. hardtail because I can’t afford good spec. full sus. Therefore I choose good spec. hardtail rather than cheap full sus. And I enjoy it . Merrida Big Trail 600 👌

It's just like with a car. When you're young, you only whant doors at the front. Then life gets more serious and you need additional doors at the back. Otherwise you just can't manage anymore. At some point, you get older and you want a car, that only has doors at the front. It is the same with the suspension. Blake is just too old for a cosy family sedan.

I recently bought a used full suspension bike which i really enjoy too, i also have a hardtail bike and i thought about selling it but i don't think i will be doing that becouse if it comes to long trips, a hardtail gets you further because on a full suspension a part of your paddling force is sucked up by the suspension. I definitely don't find hardtails outdated and maybe I will some time buy one with slack geometry and a dropper post and i am sure it will be awesome on rough downhill trails too.

This is a very “Age” specific statement.
I would have agreed 15 years ago ,but at 64 hardtails are just too “hard” I rode fully rigid and hardtail from the mid 1980’s until 2010 but now it takes too much time to recover from a long day out doing technical riding.
Full suspension and a Soft tail make it possible to ride what I used to ride without the pain and recovery time.

Have my Dartmoor Hornet as my fun bike (mulleted with 160 fork) Does everything that the Intense dually can do with as much to more fun factor. Just needs an insert in the rear. And yes does indeed make you read your lines more carefully which translates to better full suss riding.

This is all very good, however when I get myself in rowdy situations I'm very glad to have rear suspension. It's like life insurance, will take you out of a bad spot and save you from nasty crashes.

Dont get me wrong, i absolutely love my hardtail. But i feel that i get a better workout on my full suspension.
I live in cardiff so its the perfect location for all styles of mountain bikes. We have the taff trail that takes you all the way from cardiff bay, right up to the brecon beacons.
The only advantage i honesty feel i gain on my hardtail is speed.
Other than that, the full suspension takes the win for me.
It eradicates my lower disc problems in my lower back, its easier getting up steep hills ( slow but steady )
And for me i just feel more connected for all around mountain biking, from single track, tarmac footpaths, gravel, mud, off road trails… the lot !

In 35 years of riding as an adult, I've had all kinds of bikes: road, TT, full-sus, etc., and my 2022 Specialized Epic Hardtail is the best bike I've ever owned. Modern hardtails have a little bit of trail geometry, so they're waaaay more stable than the harsh and twitchy 26ers we grew up on. My Epic is light and playful on the trail, and good enough on gravel that I often choose it over my Diverge. SPD pedals for the reasons you mentioned in the vid, and 2.35's work well here in the midwestern USA. Again, best bike I've ever had - love my Epic.

Totally agree with this video. Just upgraded and bought a new mountain bike recently, and I stuck with a hardtail. I find them more fun to ride than a FS, and as someone who maintains his own bike i appreciate not having to deal with the unnecessary complexity of a FS.

IDK GMBN, IMHO this is nothing new. I'm not quite sure about the direction this channel is going lately, so may obvious topics and sometimes it feels like product-plugging...

Been riding HTs for 30 yrs, from steel 95 Specialized Rockhopper to alloy 05 Stumpjumper HT to 22 Chisel HT - all rather simple bikes. Especially the steel Rockhopper and now the Chisel where/are bang-on bikes, and that Stumpjumper was very good too. The ride of the Chisel is unmatched for, say, 1500 euros/dollars. I rode some Cubes and Canyons with a higher price tag and they were not on that level IMHO. Every sporty cyclist who doesn't want to spend more than 2000 on a new bike, will probably know and knew this about HTs, for the last 2 decades or so.
